We mutually met at my 3 story historic rental property in ********** and received a quotation for exterior painting on Aug. 31, 2023. We agreed upon the terms and agreed that the work would happen in the spring of 2024 at a cost of $4,200 + paint and materials. The quote included a height risk premium and is noted on the quote. The quote also included that I pay for paint or materials for wood replacement. After several delays, the work was to start on Aug 19, 2024. We mutually met again in early Aug. 2024 to go over what was to receive paint and I sent a $500.00 deposit check. When Handy Girls showed up to work, they determined that their 32' ladder was not sufficient to complete the work on the 3rd floor windows. They needed to rent a manlift at the cost of $1,200 - $1,500 and demanded that I pay for that as a material cost. I replied that a lift is a tool and requirement to complete the job and not a material. Shortly after that conversation, I received a text that stated they would eat the cost of their paint and leave the job and not complete. I am now stuck with a partially scrapped house and white caulking on a 2 windows and a door frame. 1 window is partially painted. They have not cashed the deposit check and I put a stop payment on the check after them leaving the jobsite. Terrible to do business this way. They should have estimated the job correctly and it is not right that I should pay for their mistake or for the tools they need to complete the job.
