UniTek Global Services was a sub-contractor for **** to bury a fiber optic line from their junction point to the neighbors home. During their install they disturbed the soil causing cracking in my driveway. I attempted to use their internal risk management (*********************) but was told they they are not responsible for the damage. Their justification for the denial of claim is because the crack is approximately 7 inches from their bore hole and concrete cracks all the time. The fault in this logic is the 100+ foot concrete driveway has ZERO cracks in it but mysteriously I have a 10x10 ft pad that has a crack that started approximately 7 inches from their work. The soil is mostly sand and is easily disturbed. I have had three concrete companies that have confirmed that the boring and disturbing of the soil would be the cause of the break in the driveway.

      Dear *** ******** *******:
Please accept this as UniTek's official response to the above-referenced Complaint.
Complainant alleges that UniTek caused cracking in his concrete driveway in Hampstead, North Carolina while it was performing fiber optic install work for **** at his neighbor's house. UniTek disputes this claim in its entirety. UniTek had a concrete expert review the written evidence as well as the location of the damages. The expert's conclusion is that the work performed by UniTek at the Complainant's neighbor's residence could not have been the reason for the cracks in Complainant's driveway. The expert specifically stated that the damage is not new, and it would have been caused “definitely by settlement from irrigation lines and vehicles driving on the edge of the concrete.” The Complainants admitted to having a 60' boom truck on the driveway that was utilized to hang Christmas lights on the roof line of their house. This truck may have caused the damage on the driveway. Additionally, UniTek's expert determined that the size and length of the bore performed by UniTek could not have caused the damage to the driveway.
If there are any additional requirements, or for any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at *****@unitekgs.com. Thank you.
      Sincerely,
      Kim J.
