Invoice # ******, customer # *****. Steering rack was replaced by Kelly Cadillac. Within 300 miles after replacement, the driveshaft fell apart. It has been verified with other Cadillac and ***** dealers that the subframe needs to be removed to replace the steering rack. To remove the subframe, the driveshaft needs to be removed. This is also verified in the shop manual procedure. It was also explained as such by Kelly Cadillac in the estimate. As a side note after this investigation, Kelly charged around $3500 for what is $2500 everywhere else. Kelly bolted the driveshaft up into place to fix it. But since then, the driveshaft needs to be replaced because it was damaged while scraping on the ground from the time it fell apart(which is extremely dangerous, life threatening). Kelly is now saying that they never removed the driveshaft, that they have "special tools" so that they don't have to. But they refuse to explain what was done to the car. Per the manual, there are other procedures that need to be followed, like replacement of the subframe bolts. Which now comes into question what they did correctly or not. Kelly refuses to send me a detailed record of the service that was done. Either a mistake was made and the driveshaft wasn't reinstalled properly or they didn't follow standard procedure. Either way, the car may be unsafe. The worst part is that they are lying about what has been done. Was told two completely different stories by the same person. Once it became a liability, they went into deniability mode. I need to at least know what was done to the car.
