I arranged to have CVC install a new boiler in my house in November and it was finished in February. I paid in full before the job was done. However, I noticed when they left that they hadn't hooked up the thermostat wire to the boiler so I could install a new thermostat, something I had discussed with them during the initial consult. I could install the thermostat, I just needed the wire connected, something simple on a new boiler for an experienced contractor. Surprisingly, they initially balked and said they hadn't included it on the quote, but eventually some workers came by, spent several hours working on it and then said that the boiler wasn't working but that someone experienced from the company would come by and sort it. I waited several weeks without any information, reached out and was told that it was a very complex process which would require a technician that I would have to pay for. After some emails and phone discussions about this, the manager eventually admitted that he could probably do it in a few minutes and would swing by when he was in the area and connect the wire. No charge. After several months, he said he couldn't come by but he would arrange for a technician to do it instead. The gentleman showed up, said he knew what he was there for and went to work while I worked in my office. He told me there was no problem with the boiler and it was an easy fix. Without me asking, he then installed the thermostat which I thought was simply a nice gesture. Until I received a bill for $230. As I had specifically said I did not want to pay for someone to come do this, I reached out to the manager who replied in an angry email that, yes, it was a miscommunication and that, yes, I was being billed for something I had not asked for and that it was my fault for asking them to finish the job I paid them originally. Which seems like an odd way to run a business.
