On 1/22/2022, we ordered a new fireplace from Light My Fire Hearth Shop at 601 Woods Avenue in Lock Haven, PA. We discussed that we were replacing our existing fireplace that was not functioning properly and discussed specifications for the new unit including the natural gas feed that it uses in our home. We asked if money was owed, but the owner, Pete indicated he did not want to charge us anything until the new unit was installed and we were happy with it. He further stated that if we were unhappy with the unit, he would just take it back and sell it in his shop and indicated that he has done this before. A new unit was ordered, and took ~6 months to arrive. We were contacted by Pete at various times while waiting to see if we still wanted to get the unit in spite of delays. Once it arrived, Pete arranged his installers to come and set it up for our use. After install, they left and our home had a strong odor of gas and a foul smell. Our family and pets were sickened and had to turn off the unit's pilot light and clear the area. We attempted to get the unit running again later, and discovered it had been setup improperly for continuous pilot vs. intermittent pilot, which is what we ordered. We contacted Pete, who indicated he thought we just couldn't work the remote. A technician came and stated the unit needed parts and left. We contacted Pete after a week and he stated that technician was in the hospital but would send another to help us with our remote problem. When the new technician came, he found that the wrong unit was installed which required propane vs. the natural gas supply we have. We contacted Pete a week later for resolution, and he demanded payment before doing anything further. He accused us of ordering the wrong unit, and indicated he is considering getting a lawyer. We requested Pete return our original unit and take his new one back. He became combative and ended up hanging up the phone. We are seeking return of our original unit as agreed.
