Hello,I hope all is well. I had a unique situation with a contractor JM Drafting that I believe should be brought to your attention.I hired JM Drafting as a contractor in December of 2020, they quoted the total cost of my job at $20,500 and agreed to complete it by March 1 2021. We impressed upon them that this room was an extension on my house to provide my father a place to stay while he goes through cancer treatment so timing was extremely crucial.Fast forward to May, less than half the work is completed, my dad was going through treatments and the contractor was asking for cost increases or he won't continue the work, all while dragging out the process and making excuses as to why the work isn't done. At that point, I wanted to get the job done so I was trying to go along despite my frustration. Then, on a day (on or around May 3) the contractor was going to come to collect a payment to pre-pay for more materials, he got in a tragic motorcycle accident and had been in a coma until around July to my knowledge. His father sent out a notice through a lawyer saying the company would fulfill its obligations, and I impressed upon him the urgency of completion of my project. A few weeks of unreturned calls go by and the father then texts me ranting- after i was simply trying to follow up, telling me that I am NOT his priority and to get a new contractor. Given he was over 2 months past our agreed upon completion date BEFORE the accident ever happened, I terminated the contract due to breach of duties and found another contractor to come finish the work. The trouble is, the quote for the ADDITONAL work on top of what JM Drafting had done is $25,000, MORE than the original quoted price. Attached docs support this including a letter from the engineer who stamped JM drafting plans stating that he did not follow how own drawings which lead to my second contractor needing to do additional work to remediate JM Drafting's work.
