I had my annual eye exam which went well. I have been a patient of this practice for several years and have not had an issue before this. After the exam I was asked to wait to pick out and order a set of glasses. It was late in the day near closing time so after a brief wait I told the lady attending to me that I needed to leave. She said she understood and that I could come back another day and to have a good evening. I left and went to the lower parking lot and started to drive home. The office manager came to my car waving her arms yelling at me that I forgot to pay my copayment. I told her no one asked for it and she demanded that I return to the office to make the payment and she was short staffed. I told her I had to come back to order my glasses, but she continued to demand I return to the office while blocking my car. I told her to send me a bill. She then continued her rant, so I went back to the office all the while she was yelling at the world that she was only trying to save the business. I went into the waiting area as she ducked into her office. The doctor asked what the problem was, and I told him what occurred, and I needed to get home. I told him I would not be back after being treated like a thief. I paid the copayment and left after being denigrated by the office manager. I then waited thinking they would cool off and call with some apology which never occurred.Business response

Response to **************
We have received your complaint sent to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General’s office. We appreciate you taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention, as we review any complaint with seriousness.
The patient, as a part of his medical condition, requires eye dilatation and takes an additional 15 minutes. His total appointment time was 1 hour and 45 minutes. The office does not close until all patients have been seen by the doctor and met with the optician. The patient stated that he was aware of the co-pay before he left and needed to leave because he had a dog at home to take care of.
The video surveillance does not show the manager blocking the patient’s car or acting in an aggressive manner. The interaction escalated because the patient made disparaging comments about the staff and practice.
A note of apology and the prescription for his eyeglasses was sent on May 13, 2023, per his letter to us. The chart notes can be sent to a corresponding medical practice per HIPPA regulations.
Though we cannot alleviate the disappointment felt from this interaction, we did our best to serve other patients with earlier appointments who had a handicap. We are not pursuing further interaction from this incident; we would appreciate he would also.Customer response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********* and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I rejected the response submitted by Allegheny Vision Associates because they claimed to have sent me a copy of the prescription I had requested. To this date I have yet to receive it. Many of their rebuttal statements are untrue but at this point all I want is the prescription for the service they were paid. I did note that apparently they seem to condone following me to my car so as to demand immediate payment of the money I already admit that was due. It was their obligation to request this payment while I was in the office, instead of creating an intolerable situation at my car. If such occurred with someone else or elsewhere the situation could have ended badly. Approaching a car as it is ready to back out is unacceptable especially in this context.
Thank you for your help and hopefully you can help me to obtain the prescription that they claim to have sent to me.
Yours Sincerely,
******* ** ****
