  I used a bank card to pay in the Good Day Cafe on 9/9 for about $10. During the transaction, the cashier committed ongoing communication with me conditioned on verification of my phone number. The computer screen there displayed some of my personal information, e.g., phone number, which I did not actively provide. So, the nature of the dispute or more precisely concern is a. procurement of this personal information and b. explanation of it. I asked in-person immediately, with the business’s online form, and also by e-mail subsequently in vain. My bank did not corroborate the cashier’s response, which was something like my phone number transmitted when I used my card. I am still wanting to know how the Good Day Cafe had my phone number without me offering or actively providing it.

  Thank you for reaching out to Good Day Cafewith your concern. The Point of Sale (POS) system we use at Good Day Café is Square –a popular system for small businesses nationwide. Square utilizes information (email address, phone number) provided throughout their vast network of Square POS users. The information you are referencing was not obtained by usand as you stated you did not give to us.According to the information from Square’s website,it appearsSquare connected your phone number to your credit card through their Automatic Receipt option.

  At Good Day Café, we have trained our staff to ask customers if they would like to sign up for ourloyalty program. To join our loyalty program, a customer would have to makethe decision to join and add their phone number to our program. Square DID NOT add you into the Good Day Café loyalty program and your information does not appear anywhere in the Good Day Café Square system.You can follow the link below for verification of our response:

If you provided your email address, you will automatically be sent receipts to this address when you make subsequent purchases with that card at Square Sellers without having to enter in your email address each time. However, if you provided your phone number, you will still need to manually choose to receive a receipt via text after each payment with a Square Seller
