From **************** On March 11, 2021, I had surgery to fix bunion and hammertoe problems on my left foot. Surgery was performed by ************* a podiatrist. Prior to surgery, I was told that recovery would span a 10-week period, during which I was required to wear a boot for 24 hours a day. At my 5/13/21 appointment with Dr ********* I was told to remove the boot and to begin wearing a shoe on the left foot. I was also advised to buy New Balance shoes, style 813, to wear. I asked if I should get Physical Therapy. I as told "No", that the foot would be fine in 6 weeks. There was absolutely no improvement in May-June, 2021. At a 6/24 appointment with Dr ********* I was now told that it would take one year for my foot to completely heal. This was never stated to me prior to surgery. I was also now sent to Physical Therapy, twice a week for a 6-week period. No improvement resulted. I was unable to wear a shoe on the left foot and there was constant pain when I walked. The hammertoe stuck up in the air because of the 3/11/21 surgery insert. The big toe was unable to remain in place, pushing to the left, crowding the hammertoe next to it and causing a reoccurrence of the bunion on my left foot. My left foot was considerably worse than prior to this surgery! Dr ********provided no help. On 9/20/21, I had a final appointment with Dr ********* I informed him that my PCP had advised that I get an appointment for a consult, 2nd opinion, from an orthopedic foot specialist. Now Dr ******** spoke differently. He told me that I would need a 2nd surgery. He no longer stated that my foot would heal in 1 year's time, I asked why this problem wasn't fixed during the 1st surgery. Dr ******** said that it wasn't warranted then. I asked how it could be warranted now, only 6 months later. Dr ******** stated that you can't always expect surgery to have a successful outcome! The orthopedic foot specialist told me that a 2nd surgery was now required to fix this problem
