My husband and I hired **** ******** and **** ********** of Wentling Contracting to put an addition on our house in March of 2019. Their quote was reasonable, and they had done some other jobs for us, so we were confident that they could do the job. It started out great at first, but then, little by little, they spent less and less time here. In fact, they parked their work trailer in front of our house and would come and get tools for other jobs. We had a particularly rainy summer, and our basement would get flooded because their was no roof on the addition yet. The framing was there, but the wood actually started to warp from the rain because it was exposed to the elements so long. They would get a particular part done of the addition and ask for payment for the next part to be done. We, then, wouldn't see them for days, or they would come for a few hours and leave. I have text after text saying they were on their was, but they wouldn't show up. Their excuse was that their vehicles broke down, but I would see photos on Facebook of them putting on a deck at someone else's house. We would advance them money so they would stay on our job with the agreement that they would finish our job by August 31, 2019. August 31 came and went, and they were not even close to being finished. By the middle of September, we had had enough and told them to take their trailer and leave. They owed us $16,000 of money that we had advanced them. They would not pay it back because they said we kicked them off the job. We took them to small-claims court and won a judgement in the amount of $12,180. Between ****'s attorney and our attorney, we settled on $8,000. We would be paid $200 a month until the $8,000 was satisfied. I had to get after **** every month to remind him that it was time for a check. In August of 2021, his check bounced, so then amount that he owes goes back up to $12,180. We put a lien against ****'s property and Wentling Contracting. This was the worst experience of my life. We had to hire other contractors to finish the job, and we were lucky to find ones. We are senior citizens on a fixed income, and we were really taken advantage of. To make things worse, I have Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis, and I am a cancer survivor. You can imagine what the stress did to my health.
