On July 17th, I attempted to open a checking and savings account with ********************** using their new account offer which requires you to bundle the checking and savings online to receive the offer. They provided an option to fund the account using a debit card which I provided from my prior bank. My prior bank put a hold on the transaction and sent a text asking me to confirm the transaction. Any responsible adult knows this is a common preventative measures financial institutions use to prevent fraud. The very next day July 18th i spoke with Citizens customer service 800 number to try to resolve this issue. I spoke to two agents who had no idea what I meant when I said I wanted to try to submit a payment to fund the account and a supervisor. So out of 3 banking professionals none of them had the common sense to say hey were going to need you to come in to a local branch to verify your identity and confirm your intent to open an account. I received no reasonable resolution on July 18th. By Friday they were already in the process of closing the account, without speaking with me or any attempted communication and without refunding the $200 that was already provided to fund the account. They agents are poorly trained and lack problem solving ability, and are quick to try smooth talk their way out of poor business practices. No Citizens bank there is no excuse for discriminating against an individual because of something beyond their control. Like Im supposed to have control over my bank trying to verify a transaction? There was absolutely no effort to verify my identity with my current bank or myself which I hate to sound repetitive but when dealing with finances is actually a really big deal. These people lack basic problem solving, their representatives are rude and are trained to read off a script instead of actually trying to assist, and requiring someone to sign up online but then having absolutely no support for setting up afterwards is just bad business.Review from Richard R

This bank has to be the worst institution I have ever in my life dealt with from a customer service aspect, technology aspect (app and website). I just hung up with a supervisor named ******** who literally said the bank app being down is not a banking error thus the egregious NSF fees I received due to NOT being able to access the app and transfer funds could not be credited back. I was charged over $300 in NSF fees and all they were able to offer me was $35 in fees and tell me that I shouldve went to a branch to attempt a transfer. Im extremely blown away by the audacity and lack of customer service and customer care I received and will now have to take a day off of work in order to go to the limited branch locations and close my account as I cant believe that the supervisor not a regular customer service rep but the supervisor told me this today. I explained initially I work 2 jobs and both my jobs do not have a branch within 30 miles and I do NOT drive to work! Stay away from Citizens Bank and trust me never do business with them !!!Review from debbie c

Citizens bank mortgage department is not a local bank. Do yourself a favor and visit a local credit union. You cannot make a mortgage payment at a branch. I called the mortgage department on June 10 to let them know I have a new home insurance policy. I wanted the new policy paid from my escrow account and not my old policy that I would be canceling at renewal on July 15th. Well Citizens assured me the new policy would be paid that they already had the new policy from my insurance company. You guessed it, they paid the old policy. I paid the new policy with my credit card so the policy didnt cancel and told Citizens escrow department. They told me they would pay the new company. They either do NOT listen or cannot comprehend a sentence. I had to tell them again that I already paid the policy and I did not want my escrow account to be short. Then she told me if I wanted my insurance escrowed next year that I would have to talk to someone in the mortgage department to set up escrow payments ????????. I had to tell her my account is already set up for escrow, it was when I signed my mortgage ************* wasnt talking to anyone else. Then I asked to talk to a manager, I was on hold for 11 minutes to then be told all the supervisors are in a ***************** would call me back. Yeah, lets see how long that will take..RUN far away from Citizens Bank. If rates were not so high, I would be refinancing today with a LOCAL bank or ************Review from Susan D

Absolute nightmare!!!! They buy high interest student loans without your consent. Even if you pay on the due date they take a week or more to process the payment and report you to credit bureaus as ***** days late.Review from Tom G

after multiple (4-5 efforts) of trying to link online accounts there has been no resolution to the problem. There only response is that the request has been submitted and will take 1-2 business days. Its been two weeks of 1-2 buisness day answers. Wish I had not joined this bankReview from Jason M

Just genuinely terrible customer service. I had to call in today about an issue with an automatic payment on a Citizens Pay account because of an error when trying to move my checking account. First I get someone who sounded annoyed at having to be at work from the moment she picked up the phone. Then they tell me they can't do anything as simple as move the payment date so it doesn't get returned. I don't think I've ever reached out to these guys that they haven't acted like it was unreasonable to expect them to do anything. Is it this hard to find people willing to work that you're putting the worst possible people into dealing with support calls? I wish Apple would find someone else to handle their Upgrade program, because these guys are terrible at it.Review from Martin C

This bank is either incompetent or intentionally difficult. I opened a CD just because I saw attractive rates. Now getting the money out has been a real pain. First of all, in comparison, my prefered bank Ally made this so easy. They let you declare what you want to happen to the money when it matures. Process done! Citizens Bank does not do that. I was not allowed to set up a scheduled transaction of any type due on maturity. Furthermore I had *********************************************************************************************** so now when it became mature I tried to transfer the money online but was unable to. They said I had to call. I called and we wen't through a bunch of security checks ending with this texted pin number security check. Their system was broken at the time and those pins weren't working. So I had to try again the next day. Still broken. Then finally day 3 it's not broken and the transfer to a citizens checking account happens. Now I need to transfer out of citizens to another bank. First day trying this the online banking system has some kind of error and won't let me sign in. So I try again the next day and finally get through. But now for online banking there's a $25000 transfer limit per day and $100,000 per month!!!!! Unless I order checks or if I drop into a branch. But I'm no where near a branch. So now I have to wait for checks so I can start writing checks to myself. And I'm sure once I get the checks I'll be hit with another problem. Holy h*** this system is awful.Review from Sylvia G

I've lived in ******** for the majority of my 55 years, and I have always taken pride in frequenting my neighborhood businesses. However, every time I visit this particular Citizens Bank at ***************************************************, its nothing short of disappointment. Each time I've visit, ******************************* wouldn't help me as she should have. She talks about my personal information in front of other customers, she would ask what I need to be seen for. That is my main complaint and concern. Also, she told me that she had an appointment coming in and I said I would wait after her appointment (at her suggestion). Her appointment never showed up after over 45 min. In the meantime, she took friends of hers, I knew they were friends because she hugged and kissed them upon their arrival and upon their departure. At which time she still didn't want to help me cancel fraud charges on my account. Her "appointment" never showed up after over an hour by then. In which she still refused to help me. Maybe, it was too tedious or time consuming to her. Each and every time I've tried to come into customer service for help and she is working, its always an issue.Review from Kristina P

HORRIBLE BANK - BONUS OFFER A SCAM. I would leave begeative stars if I could. I received an bonus offer in the mail for a checking and savings account. I opened both, set up online account, set up direct deposit with my work, set of transfers into my savings account all to meant the requirements for this bonus. Pay day at work arrives and I'm told the bank rejected my direct deposit. I look in my account, and my checking account disappeared. The money I transferred into the savings account never was put in. I go in to chat with Citizens Bank and they tell me "we decided to end the relationship with you." No notice, no email, no mail indicating that I wasted my time setting up direct deposit, opening the accounts, or funding the savings account. I ask for an explanation as to why "my relationship was ended" and they closed the chat. I called - I'm given NO explanation other than they are "sending me check" for the money I transferred in. Won't tell me when it's going to arrive, provide a check number, or provide any other information. This bank is complete SCAM. They are telling me I can't get the check number because "it could compromise my account" when they closed my accounts. They told me "to act professionally" on the phone when I'm missing $500 of money I entrusted to their business and provided no professional assistance in explaining why I took time out out of my life to become their customer and they just closed the accounts with no notice or explanation. If my job did't tell me direct deposit was rejected, when would I have found out? How could they not notify someone about this? My sense is they don't want to provide the bonus to people who actually jump through all the hoops to get it! Now I get to wait week(s) to see if I actually ever get my $500 back. Costumer service on phone just literally stopped responding to me similar to them just ending the chat on me.
