The apartment manager is trying to add illegal fees to my rental amount. Last month, we paid rent by the 5th (due date) and it was returned to us on the 11th by the processor. We then paid it again and received a return fee of $50. In South Carolina it’s illegal for a return fee to be above $30. They are also charging us $125 late fee when they’re the ones who returned our rent after the due date for no reason. On top of this, we have black mold in our bedroom, have gone without water 3 times, have had no water pressure for the last 5 days, had cockroaches from August-December, and our air conditioning has stopped working twice.Initial Complaint

This apartment complex is crawling with mold, and the water utilities are continually shut off. They cannot let me know when water will be restored.Business response

Good Afternoon,
The Retreat at the Park had 2 main water leak breaks. The water had to be shut off due to the leaks. A plumber was called and the leaks were repaired. We sent emails to all residents letting them know of the situation. If a resident did not receive an email I encourage them to call or stop by the office and the manager will update their file.
As far as mold. We do not have any outstanding work orders concerning mold. If someone thinks they have a mold issue in their apartment I encourage them to call or stop by the office and put in a work order so the maintenance can take a look and determine the problem.
