The company, Dominion Energy South flagged my account no. **************** as a Charge-off on Jul 20, 2024, which negatively affected my credit score. This was an account created to pay for electricity services at a previous address, 1A Coming St Charleston, SC 29401. Surrounding my account with Dominion Energy, my account was selected to E-draft payments from my bank account. I closed the account in January 2024 and believed the account to be paid off in February 2024. I never received any written communication from Dominion Energy that my E-draft was cancelled for the 01/18/24-01/31/24 bill due in February 2024. I was notified by a debt collector in May 2024 that I had debt to be owed to Dominion Energy. I promptly logged into my account, paid the remaining balance of $450.62 on May 21, 2024, and thought nothing of it. However, the payment method that was used was declined though my account showed 0.00 balance. I was never notified of this by Dominion Energy or my bank. Upon further inspection, today, August 1, 2024. I learned that Dominion Energy had out of date billing information on file and this account was used to pay my remaining balance. This would have been avoided if E-draft would have not been cancelled by Dominion Energy. Dominion Energy also never notified of me of the failed payment in writing. Additionally, their payment reports also show the payment was processed – causing me to believe the account was paid in full. This account was paid off in full on August 1, 2024. I am writing to ask that you remove this from my credit report due to clerical error and failure to notify on behalf of Dominion Energy.

The company's research shows there was no error in the reporting.  There were multiple notices sent via mail to the consumer multiple weeks in advance of the account being moved to the write off/collection status.  The account was also paid with multiple returned items which was included in the unpaid balance.  Notice of the final bill was sent to the consumers email address on 01/22/2024, along with a copy sent to the address on file.  It is the consumer's responsibility to provide the company a forwarding address or file with the postal service so they can continue receiving mail that is addressed to them.  Customer appears to be making multiple payments toward the final bill account that are being returned by their bank.  Customer has been advised the company will provide a paid in full letter, however we will not delete the paid trade from the credit reporting agency.

The consumer was provided the necessary documents to dispute this trade item.  Unfortunately, they failed to return the completed forms, including a police report to the company.  Therefore, the case was closed.  The consumer is aware of the requirements to dispute this item.  No further action on behalf of the company will occur without the proper documentation returned to the company.  Customer may pay the outstanding balance due the company and the trade will be reported as paid in full.

The company has provided documents to the consumer on separate occasions to allow the company to investigate the consumer's claim of fraud.  Each occasion the case has been closed due to the consumer failing to return the necessary documents.  The consumer may pay the outstanding balance and the company will report the debt paid in full, however the trade will not be deleted from the consumer's file.  Based on our investigation, the company has not erred in this reporting. No further response will be made regarding this submission to the BBB.

I explained the violations your agency committed under the FCRA, while informing your agency of the fact that these items were reported without my expressed, written consent. This leads to way of identity theft, which leads to a violation of the civil liability section of the FCRA, as I informed you in the previous notice, which I have attached once more again for your record! Your agency has clearly refused to follow the law and honor my previous request so I am requesting a reinvestigation and demanding your agency to explain your METHOD OF VERIFICATION in verifying these items, pursuant to the Fair Credit Reporting Act’s Procedure in Case of disputed accuracy section, 15 USC 1681i(7) DOMENGY SC *************

The company has previously spoken with the consumer and provided the necessary documents (fraud packet) to dispute this reporting.  The case has been closed due to non-compliance.  The consumer did not return the completed packet to the company in order to review and investigate.  The consumer's reported data will remain open and reported as an unpaid debt.  Should the consumer choose to pay the outstanding amount, once paid the company will report it as paid in full trade.

I reviewed my consumer report and informed your agency on May 09, 2024 about the items I disputed. Despite this, the issue remains unresolved in a manner that is fair and equitable to me as required by the FCRA. The company has provided the consumer with a fraud packet.  Company also has previously verified the consumer was a tenant at this location with a signed lease.  The service was discontinued in the consumer's name at the time it was verified they were no longer living here.  The company will continue further investigation once we have received the fraud packet from the consumer, along with a police report.

The company has had multiple conversations with the consumer regarding this complaint.  The consumer was provided on an equal number of occasions a fraud packet that is required to be completed, including filing a police report in order for the company to investigate.  Each time, the file has been closed due to failure to return the necessary fraud packet.  Unfortunately, the company is unable to investigate the claim unless the consumer follows through with providing the information requested.

I'm creating this complaint regarding DOMINION ENERGY SC situated at CAYCE, SC. They've recently provided bogus & unverifiable details on my credit file to the credit agencies, they don't want to carry out a substantial investigation, and what's crazy is their company has not provided some sort of substantiation of the discrepancies that they are reporting. The particular information in dispute is DOMINION ENERGY Account # *************. No matter how many times I dispute with them to resolve the mistakes on my credit profile, this corporation continually ignores my disputes and is causing me a great deal of avoidable finance-related and even mental fatigue. I need this particular mistaken info eliminated from my credit report now. This situation has created substantial harm, not just to my credit, but at the same time to my good name. Please assist. Thanks so much.

The company has responded to multiple requests for deletion submitted by the consumer or agencies on their behalf.  The consumer has been advised of the outstanding balances that are required to be paid before the company will report the balances paid in full.  The collection trade report will not be removed but will reflect paid in full.  The company has investigated and determined the reported collection to be valid.

Although my monthly bill has been consistent I guess Dominion wasn’t getting enough money so an “Other Charges” fee was tacked onto my bill that I was never notified about until I got the bill. My bill doubled, After being placed on hold for several minutes the only reason given was a meter misread or malfunction, or some other err that occurred last month, so the charges was tacked onto this bill. I informed them that no one from Dominion notified me by email, phone, not left a note on the door stating they had been out. They do however know how to notify me of a monthly bill. This was unprofessional, just because they have a monopoly of who I have to use for service. The least Dominon Energy could do is to notify a person or business of the problem and when the problem has been resolved with an outcome. Not just tack on charges with a very vague explanation. Now, I’m stuck with an unforeseen bill. Dominion Energy should be required to notfiy consumers of any issues they having, so the consumer is not blindsided is aware and know they are working to fix the issue.

We apologize for the confusion with your monthly billing. There are times based on the location within the network that we are unable to receive a reading from the meter.  This can result in an estimated billing amount on your account.  This is noted on your monthly billing statement that will alert you as to an estimation.  In reviewing your billing statements, the company did note this on the monthly statements that specific months were estimated.
