Animal Rescue Carolina claims to be a restorative service for stray kittens/cats. However they lure people w a much lower price than you'd pay a Vet, then sell your pet to the highest bidder. We were given no warning nor could I get return calls or speak to someone directly about her progress. Only an email stating she was adopted by the foster family they placed her with instead of our own care. We made it very clear we wanted her back when she got well enough after spaying. Just because they could find health care she needed did not give them the right to adopt her to someone else! They're clearly conducting a racket of selling people's pets and our wish is to expose them.

      11/29/2021

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2021/11/17) */ Animal Rescue Carolina is a no kill, non-profit, foster-based rescue whose mission is, in part, to restore animals to good health before adopting them to permanent loving homes. Our rescue exists through a network of volunteers who give of their personal time and resources to help in this mission. When our rescue takes an animal in, we provide needed medical care, shots, microchip, spay/neuter, flea preventative, de-wormer and a FIV/FeLV snap combo-test. The cost of these mentioned services range from at least $200 to upwards of $1000 per animal. Our adoption fees range from $150 to $100 for each animal and do not cover the cost of the basic medical care/services provided. Our animals are adopted to individuals who submit an application to our rescue and provide acceptable personal, as well as vet references, and pass an applicable review process. We provide care to animals when people cannot afford or will not otherwise care for them. In our community, the need far outweighs our ability to assist abandoned/neglected animals. In response to the current complaint with BBB, our rescue received a message via ******** Messenger stating "My neighbor caught a kitten and gave it to my parents, I just want to make sure he goes to someone eventually to get adopted. I don't want to take him some place where they will euthanize him." Upon an initial assessment, it was determined that the kitten needed medical attention. An inquiry was received asking if the kitten would be returned. It was explained that after an animal is taken in by the rescue, an application process is required to adopt. There was one telephone conversation with Mr. ******** and after weighing the probable cost of a vet visit versus the cost of an adoption, the decision was made to surrender the cat to our rescue. A foster home was found for this cat to stay while receiving the needed medical attention and until a permanent home could be found. Since our rescue is strictly volunteer and foster based, all communications are through our email address, which is monitored by volunteers. This provides a central place where potential adopters can reach our rescue. Mr. ******** was asked to communicate via our rescue email and to avoid calling volunteers, or using social media. At no time during the communication was it conveyed that our application and review process would not be adhered to or that the cat would be returned once all medical care and spay/neuter were provided. In the case of this particular kitten, the foster family decided to adopt the kitten. When one of our approved foster homes decide they want to adopt, we know the animal is in a good place and we have fulfilled our mission for that kitten. If additional information or clarification is needed, please do not hesitate to reach out to our rescue.
