We hired Soda City Builders to do a home renovation. ***** the owner sat down and met with us in April 2021 and we signed a contract for work to begin and put down payment of 30K towards material orders. He then only answered the phone once or twice and only returned our calls in JUNE 2021 once we told him we would hire a lawyer. A project that was promised to take 6 weeks, only half of which was completed and unfinished work at best took until the week before Christmas when my husband competed the work. He now is refusing to answer calls or send a spreadsheet with the amount due us (approximately $15K from Our estimates).

      Business response

      03/15/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 18, 2022/03/15) */ We just received your letter regarding a complaint from ******* ****- our response is as follows: We received a deposit of $30,000 for a basement remodel, siding and windows project that was to be $70,000 total. The basement was done as a first phase and the client decided not to do the remainder of the project. The basement project took longer than expected due to Covid and supply/labor issues. We only dealt with the husband throughout the project, he is a handy man and offered to complete some of the tasks of the project. We did not object as it is his home. We spent far more than the initial deposit- close to $45,000 to complete the basement portion. During the project, we invoiced for progress payments that never came- which voided the contract. Prior to suddenly demanding money back at the very end, we had no complaints from the husband other than the timeline. Our understanding was that he was happy with the work. Soda City Builders Consumer Response /* (3000, 20, 2022/03/15) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The owner, *****, has never completed a final invoice. Our project was always left for completion by his subcontractors on the weekends- which I can only imagine increased the total cost along with having the dumpster dropped off 3-4 weeks before anyone ever came to our home to start work. My husband had to prompt him and make several statements that if projects were not done in a timely fashion, there would be issues. ***** sent us a text message stating due to overall business losses totalling >200,000, he was closing his business, yet still has never come up with a final invoice for our project. He never once discussed supply issues due to covid. He eluded many times and voiced concerns with my husband over he and his partner's inability to work together as a cohesive team to effectively run their business and complete clients projects as they had stated in the initial plans/contract. He and his partner voided the contract themselves by delays that were not communicated effectively or efficiently and would only answer our calls after we told him we would hire a lawyer to get through this process.
