I hired Upstate Home Professionals LLC to finish my basement. Estimate #49 dated 04/17/24 for $21,118.26 including materials. I paid the required $5500 down payment via Zelle on 04/19/24. We agreed work would start on 05/06/24 and was originally told by the business owner that he had 2 workers so he was able to complete the work in 4 weeks so I would have the project done for my summer visitors because I told him how important that was to me (later he said he could still complete it in 5-6 weeks inclusive of the weeks he did almost nothing). He did not show up to work the first week except for a total of 6 hours to chalk tape a line and start a trench for a pipe up to about 2 feet long at that point (total of only a few hours all week). He said he'd be back with materials but never returned to do that on week 1. At that point, I realized he was not working hardly at all so I asked to cancel the contract but he reassured me he wasn't ripping me off and that he would still complete the project within 5-6 and would shape up and make this a priority. Week 2 was not much better. He had a late start on Monday 5/13 and put in 2 days of work (not even 8 hours---maybe 6 each day) total so on Friday 5/17 I had it! I texted to say I was unhappy and just wanted him to charge me for the 7 foot trench and the receipt for the supplies he dropped off (so I could return them in case I needed to) and wanted to part ways. He said yes and then strung me along from 05/17/24-05/28/24 with excuses. He never refunded me any money or reached out to resolve the monetary issues.
