Sage Mortgage was not a great experience for doing my mortgage. They contacted me.For over 3 months I thought we were moving forward with the loan. Locked a rate. But in the end it was miscommunication, different message from different people and pure frustration. I can go on and on. Wasted 3-4 months with the company. Nice people but poor poor organization. Learned a lot on this road, but withdrew my application. Pure frustration

Sage Mortgage was a referral from Bankrate.com. I started a refinance loan through them and quickly learned they are brokers for Rocket Mortgage. I chose a specific rate with set fees. However, the appraisal fee of $850 was raised to $1000 during the 3rd loan statement I received within the first 5 days of the loan process. When I inquired about why the appraisal fee was increased their Rep said it was because they would not know the final cost until after the appraisal was completed. The Rep also stated I would need a second appraisal because this is a rental that needed comparable rental fees from the area and the first appraiser did not have that certification. Huh? The Rep also had know clue why the cash from borrower amount kept increasing with each new statement. Once I realized Sage Mortgage's incompetence and misleading tactics I sent them notice of termination. This was after I had already given them my credit card number for the appraisal which they processed. Rocket Mortgage uses a middleman company which they own to setup local appraisers. I'm guessing that's why their appraisal fees are higher than the norm. I went with a local mortgage broker in ****** and ended up getting burned for the original appraisal fee of $850 from Sage/Rocket. Rocket Mortgage brushed me off to deal with Sage on the dispute. When I tried to contact Sage for reimbursement or some type of mediation, they ghosted me. Not surprising at all. I learned a valuable and expensive lesson * do not give your credit card number for appraisals or credit checks until you have the exact fees, not estimates, confirmed.

Sade ********************** associates are manipulative and lie. They use minority employees to get minority customer. But end the end they still try to get over you.

This review is regarding my experience with Sage Mortgage, as part of Rocket Mortgage and Forward Mortgage Lending. I normally don't write company reviews while in the process of actually working with them, but Sage wins the award for absolute most unprofessional and seemingly incompetent company I've ever dealt with regarding financial matters. Our Loan Officer has ghosted us after having made the sale. Our Loan Processor fails to give one piece of useful information regarding our closing date, but she always says thank you when not answering your question. It's nice and rude at the same time. The underwriters, who I've now submitted 50 plus yes, 50 plus documents to over a period of 4 weeks, somehow confused Gross Sales data with Net Income data on our P/L. Not typo related, they actually didn't know the difference. Again, disturbing stuff given that you would expect underwriters (even Accounting 101 students) to know the difference between Gross Sales and Net Income. There's a whole lot in between those numbers, but that's what I'm getting from Sage, which is a Bankrate.com company as part of Rocket Mortgage. Bottom line, I don't expect to close, and as I'm reading other consumer reviews who have had similar experiences, I wish I had read them earlier. Essentially, you’re strung along until the closing is delayed and you’re asked to pay additional fees to extend your closing with a previously locked rate. I haven’t made it to closing yet, and I’ve chosen not to simply because I’ve spent 80 hours pulling documents together, and explaining to Sage the difference between Gross vs. Net, and Sales vs. Income. Sage makes its way to the top of the list by offering lower (buy down) interest rates, but then embeds a lot of fees on the back end. Regardless, all-in they were still a little cheaper. If you've heard the saying you get what you pay for, then you know what I'm referring to - that's Sage. They are similar to Spirit Airlines in that they attract customers on the premise of cheap, but then fail to deliver.. and they're ok with that business model I guess. Hopefully some consumers out there will read this review and not get too involved with this company. They wasted 80 plus hours of my time, and caused a tremendous amount of frustration. I’d rather work with a larger lender, pay a little more, but know I’m getting serviced by a reputable company.
