We hired ****** ***** owner of Smith and Sons Masonry and Concrete Services in Hopkins SC to do a brick and concrete garage foundation and a concrete pad and walkway. He told us he had 50 years of experience. He quoted the job at $17,000. We paid him $7500 up front to buy materials. He arrived alone on the first day saying his crew stood him up. He started making mistakes from day one. The footer was dug 3 foot out of square and he busted our septic tank line even after my husband marked it. My husband then took 2 weeks off work so that he could repair the septic line and be there to supervise and make sure no other mistakes were made. On the second week, he ask my husband for another $7500 so that he could order the concrete stating he had already used all of the first payment. He done a decent job on the brickwork but when the concrete was poured, he made a mess covering our new brick with the concrete because he didn't give it time to dry before putting the machine on it and he only smoothed the places the machine would reach. All of the edges were unfinished. He and I talked about the walkway and I explained that I wanted a walkway with curves and picture frame around the edges. He knew exactly what I was talking about and said he would make it look so good because the walkway would be what everyone would see. We had to go back to work and we're not able to be there when the walkway and pad were poured. He was left alone to work for 2 days and we came home to a nightmare. I was almost in tears. It looked liked the 3 stooges had done my walkway and parking pad. I called him and ask how could he do this to us? I ask if he had ever poured concrete before and he said yes for 50 years. I told him that I had never say concrete that look so bad and it would have to be torn up and redone. He refused stating he had already lost money on the job and said that there was nothing wrong with it. He said he wasn't going to complete the job and was coming to get his tools.
