We hired Dakota to paint our cabinets in our home on August 23, 2021. His cost was $2800. He asked for 1/3 of the price up front and the remaining upon completion. We wanted them completed by August 27, 2021, so we paid him half up front to do that and he assured us it would be prioritized and finished by then. We paid him $1400 on August 23, 2021 when he picked up our cabinet doors. He then texted us and said he needed $500 more to pay his crew on August 26,2021. He then texted on August 27, 2021 and assured us he only had small touch ups remaining and asked us for $700 with the remaining upon completion. When he arrived with the cabinet doors and we inspected them, they were very damaged from transport. He said he would be back Saturday morning, August 28, 2021 to complete them. On Saturday, he didn't show up nor did he answer our calls or texts. He finally answered at 12 pm and told us he was having personal problems and was on his way. He then texted us that his crew couldn't come so he would have to finish on Monday, August 30, 2021. He waived the remaining $200 for our trouble. That Monday, the cops showed up at our home twice looking for him. When he had completed the cabinets Monday afternoon, all of the paint had debris, drips, and scrapes in it. In addition, his team got paint all over our floors, counter tops and appliances. We waited for the paint to dry for 24 hours as he told us. When we began using them, the paint completely peeled off. At the end of it all, he agreed this was bad business and to reimburse us $1400. He said he would have to send installments biweekly. Now he has blocked all our texts and calls and only paid us back $150. He completely damaged our cabinets and we had to hire someone to come and and strip all of his work and start over.
