We hired Beachside Refinishing to refinish our tub / shower unit. They provided a written estimate of $825. The worker came, stripped down the tub / shower unit. He took out / off all the silicone and broke apart a crack in the tub floor, leaving a gaping hole. The employee got the owner on the phone and he said the cost now was going to be $1,325. To do the job. They put me in a situation; pay more or we will leave. We can not as a family of 3 have no bath facilities! The did the work, however, the shower and tub were done in such a horrible manner. After the man sanded and painted it, he left as his business was done. It just needed to dry. Now the shower feels like stucco. We can not clean it as everything snags onto the walls. The inlay they installed is not sealed entirely which lets water under it to seep under it and create a moldy and unsafe situation. We just want our $825 back so we can have it repaired properly. I am obtaining a letter from a licensed plumber stating the condition of the tub / shower unit.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2022/11/02) */ You originally requested a quote to refinish both showers in your home, but decided to do them one at a time. So you have a second shower in your home. The quote received for $825 was to refinish your shower repairs not included. The shower had a large crack in the bottom that was covered with silicone caulking. The caulking had to be removed to refinish the tub properly. (silicone repels paint). My technician called and spoke with me to discuss how to move forward. I told him the proper way to address this issue would be with an inlay and gave him the discounted cost to do it since we were already refinishing your tub. He then went to you and told you the additional price of $500 to properly repair the tub. You agreed and then called your husband who also gave verbal authorization to proceed with the repair. If for some reason you didn't want to do the repair we could of threw caulking back on the crack just as you had it and left, but you said yes, go ahead with the repair. After everything was completed you handed my technician a sealed envelope that was $500 short. I sent a reminder invoice and reached out to you on Facebook messenger since this was the way we were communicating throughout the process. You flat out told me you never had any intention on paying and then blocked us. I then called you to discuss in a professional manner and you sent me to voicemail. We have since passed your account to our lawyer for collections. If for some reason there was an issue with the finish or the repair for that matter we would have been happy to come and address those issues, but for someone to flat out say we never had any intention on paying you then any warranty is null and void. Consumer Response /* (3000, 7, 2022/11/09) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) My quote was done over the phone. I answered all questions and was given a written estimate of $825. I have never done this procedure before so this is all new to me. The worker has removed the silicone and broke away the fiberglass creating a huge gaping hole. After he talked to his boss, he wanted $500 more to fix it. No one offered to put my tub back the way it was as it was now impossible!! Obviously I was angry. The worker then began telling me that this is a common practice that his employer engages in. He quotes one thing and then tries to swindle more money out of his clients. I had no other bathroom facilities. It was out of commission and I do have a $15,000 bill to prove if needed. I had made the owner aware upfront of the situation. That is why we held off on the 2 nd unit. The owner did not want any other vendors in the home while they work. After the finish has set, about 48 hours, we started to use the shower and we found the following: The insert is not fully water tight in the tub And also the finish on the tub wall was done incorrectly. Please refer to the video. You can not see the roughness in a picture, so I videoed it so you can hear it. I have gentleman that charges a lot less money that is going to refinish it. Please refund my money. Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2022/11/10) */ No refund will be issued. Had the client paid in full, had not blocked us from all contact and not tried to cheat a small business. We wouldve addressed any so called "issues" they had as per the warranty. The warranty is null and void due to the above mentioned reasons. Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2022/11/15) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I did not go into this transaction trying to defraud someone. I went into it to obtain a fixed bath / shower unit, but instead ended up being bamboozled into extra money while my unit is still not completed correctly. I have shown sufficient evidence that the work was not done properly and on top of it, I was bamboozled into their attempt to swindle more money out of me. Please be an upstanding business and do the right thing. Refund my money.
