MD Roofing was contracted to provide a roof on the residence. This was completed however the screen for the dryer vent in the roof was left in place. This resulted in a build up of lint over time and blockage. This screen should not have been left in place. Infrequent use of the dryer resulted in a slow build up but eventual danger. A dryer vent service was hired to determine the possible problem and they advised in writing "Roofer left screen in new roof vent that should have been removed after installation as instructions state to do!" MD Roofing was contacted and failed to take responsibility.

Business Response /* (1000, 12, 2022/10/21) */ This is the first I am hearing of this incident. My question is: why would any roofer remove the screen in the dryer vent? That screen is what prevents animals from coming into the home. MD Roofing does not make roof vents we only install them, this is a concern for the manufacture of the product. Please delete this complaint as it does not pertain to MD Roofing. Consumer Response /* (3000, 14, 2022/10/24) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) "A roofer vent meets the building code requirements as long as the termination duct has no screen feature" according to Home Inspection Insider. Numerous comments from companies state "If there are screens in your dryer vent this is because the builder (roofer) forgot to remove them" as well as "The main reason why you shouldn't have a screen to your roof dryer is that it will prevent lint from escaping properly."

On 7/19 we signed a contract with MD Roofing for a roof replacement. Since then we had nothing, but problems. Our house had leaks, the attic was full of sand and when we complained they terminated our contract. They had to take off the roof three times to fix installation issues. Since they terminated the contract, we did not have our gutters done, our porch fix and the misc small things. ALL were in our contract. They sent us a bill for the balance. We are looking for a billing adjustment.

      Business response

      11/17/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/09/13) */ I have read the customers complaint, and I must say that if there was a better customer bureau this customer would receive the worst rating available. Every person that had contact with this customer in our company was yelled at and cursed at, and told they were not important. I, as the owner, went there to try and resolve issues and I was screamed at, insulted, and ran out of his house. We did everything we could to address and correct any issues he had. We completed the roofing project as outlined on the contract. We had a separate contract to do the gutters on the home and I canceled it because of the verbal abuse everyone was receiving. We only invoiced them for the work that was completed. From the beginning of the install, this customer kept changing their mind with how the roof was being installed. As the experienced and trained roofer, we recommended things and he did not take our recommendation. Later he changed his mind and had us come back and do the work we initially recommended. We made those changes to his roof without charging the homeowner any additional cost. Yes, I admit there were some issues. After we installed the roof, one of his preexisting attic fans there had a small roof leak. We went out immediately and fixed the issue. On the last day we did work for this customer, we completed additional work to his home again at no cost and as a courtesy to him for the trouble he had been through. The main complaint was "sand in his attic" which ended up being roofing granules from the roof install that fell into the attic. This is something that happens on every roof install. Our Sales Manager went to the home after the install and shop-vacked his entire attic to get rid of the granules in the attic. We tried everything we could do to satisfy the customer but at the end of the day he just yelled, screamed and cursed at everyone he spoke to. In efforts to avoid any further disrespect or job site issues, we made the decision to terminate the gutter contract.

      12/22/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 12, 2022/11/30) */ This has been a frustrating situation all the way around. MR. A contacted us to take his solar panels off, have another company redo his roof and then have us put them back on. We charged him 6,000$ to do this work. Everything went fine until the customer tried to turn his system back on. Customer called us and said his solar is not working. We sent a tech out to check on it. We found everything was put back correct but still no power. We had a third party electrician go out and look at the system. He found that Mr A solar inverter was filled with water. It was filled with water before we were there. When we turned the system off the water in the system shorted out the system. It was not MD roofing's fault to why the system was not working. After finding this out we still tried to help the customer get his solar fixed. He refused to help in any way. He would not call the company that initially installed the solar, which is still in business in our area. he would not help by calling the manufacture of the solar system, which all the parts are under warranty and he could get a new one. His stance was we broke it so we fix it..... after us not being able to help him i told him to call the original company that installed it and have them come fix it and we would cover the cost. He said it wasn't his job and we should do it. We are a competitor to that company so they wont call us back... and to make things better the customer is lying saying the roofing company that did his roof needs to pay us for the solar work. We called that company and they have emails and other documentation showing they gave him the money to pay us and its between us and the home owner. Mr A is trying to pocket the money and make us fix the solar that we did not break. Consumer Response /* (3000, 14, 2022/12/04) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The distortion of facts and personal attacks are the harbingers of incompetence.Case closed.
