I hired Energy Shark Air and Heating. To install a new AC system. After explaining to Phil the owner, my current system is short cycling. He explained the old unit was definitely sized wrong He said I needed an additional return ductwork for $750. ( I realize now the new AC system would have been sized correctly, so the additional ductwork, return wasn't actually necessary). However, I finally changed the filter a year later. Because the ductwork was not installed correctly. When I removed the filter I noticed a hack job, the truss was cut and the duct was squeezed through the truss in the the shape of a tear drop. When I brought this to his attention, I included comments from peers in his industry. They all agreed the installer did a horrible job. He called them all " idiots" !! He explained to me his installers had no choice because the 14" opening couldn't fit the 16" ductwork. When I went up to my attic to inspect what he told me. There definitely is a lot more workable space to have it installed correctly without cutting the truss and squeezing the duct into a tight space. The ductwork is incorrectly installed and could have been done more professionally. Phil did have his installer call me to "repair" !! I refused to allow them to return. If they thought the installation the first time was good, to leave it in that condition. I'm afraid to allow them back to do anything in my house. I am demanding a full refund amount of so I can hire a real professional company to do it right !! ( I have photos to prove my situation).

I was sold a A/C in unit in April 2020 that was too big for my home, call another company to get the unit service and was informed that the unit was freezing up not enough air was going across the coils. That meant during installation the attic unit was improperly installed. I wasted $7000.00 on a unit that I never got service out of, only had the unit 4 years. I finally had to get a entirely new unit. Spoke with the manager of Energy Sharks he just argued that it was the right unit for the size of my home and that he had an engineering degree. Just want to let consumers beware of this business the salesman first name is Phil.

We never ever change the size of a customer's existing system. We 100% of the time replace the system with the exact size that is there when we arrive. Please understand the original builder of the home had to submit a "Manual J Heat Load Calculation" report that determines the correct size of the system to the local inspecting authority prior to passing there mechanical inspection. This Manual J calculation (software) determines the correct size the system needs to be and shouldn't be deviated from. That is how we know the original size is correct and why we always replace the system with the same size. Unfortunately, some of the local companies pay commissions to their technicians and employees which is an obvious conflict of interest and leads to this type of deception. If the new company changed the size of your system from the original they to should have completed and provided you with their own "Manual J Heat Load Calculation" report to show you why they are recommending a different size then what was used to pass the original inspection. I would request a copy of their report as any legitimate heating & air company knows this calculation must be done prior to resizing a system. I am confident you are going to find this company didn't do the required Manual J calculation and instead just shot from the hip to make the sale. You are correct we are owned and operated by a degreed mechanical engineer. You can be sure he knows how to use the Manual J software and would never ever change the size of the system without taking all the required measurements and inputting them into the Manual J software prior to making any changes to the size of your system to make sure he doesn't end up in this exact situation. Keep in mind if you aren't measuring you are guessing. I am 100 % confident whoever just changed out your system was guessing. The only true way to know why they recommended changing the size from the original size is to request a copy of their Manual J calculations report.
