I contracted with Decker Home improvement to create a great room with a cathedral ceiling including a new kitchen. The job was started mid September ‘21. Since then I have written a book on all the things that have gone wrong with this remodel. It has been beyond stressful and has required constant micro managing. I have yet to meet Jamie Decker, the general contractor and owner of the company. The biggest problem is that they ripped down walls and the ceiling without consulting a structural engineer. Now, almost 6 months later my remodel is still not finished. The worse problem is that my remodel doesn’t meet code. A beam is needed which means tearing down the new ceiling and placing columns to support the needed beam. Decker refuses to take responsibility for their mistake. I have consulted with approximately 4 structural engineers who all state that the new remodel does not meet code. They warn me that the roof ridge will sag and the sagging will be seen from the street. They state that the walls will bow (w/ cracks in the dry wall) and damage to the exterior brick. I paid a lot of money to have an engineer consultation and beam plans believing that Decker would bring my remodel up to code but they will not do so without charging me an additional $19,000 for an already overpriced remodel. The basic remodel was already beyond their capability. Twice the county inspector has come for the final inspection and there is still an item that has to be corrected. The county admits that the remodel doesn’t meet code but state that this is a civil issue between Decker and me.

During the final inspection from Greenville county the following was stated. Mrs ****** " asked the inspector **** what does the final mean?" **** followed up to say "

After today all inspections have been reviewed and passed. " All inspections including Framing, plumbing, insulation, and electrical have been reviewed and meet

Greenville county code. Mrs. ****** then said " what if I do not agree that the code was met." My engineer says the framing is not to code. **** replied that all

inspections have been reviewed and signed off as they meet code. If you have a problem you will need to contact our office with your reasons. After today all your

inspections have passed code and are finalized.
