My check engine light came on in my car. I took it to this business to be repaired. They told me they repaired it but that they took it out for a test drive and wrecked it. Their insurance sent it to be repaired but they did so much damage, the car had to be totaled. The mechanic demanded that I pay for the repairs they said they made and threatened to place a lien if I didnt. They further worked with the insurance company who refused to pay for totaling the car unless I paid the mechanic $2,400 for repairs that I never saw or be fitted from because they totaled my car. I have been taken advantage of, extorted, and harmed.

Highway 70 Car Care acknowledges that it performed repairs to the customer's vehicle and that the vehicle was involved in an accident during the post-repair test drive.  However, the labor performed and the parts supplied by Highway70 performed as expected for properly designed and installed new parts.  In addition, Highway 70 ensured that its liability carrier not only resolved the damage claim with the customer, but also took the new parts ************************* properly installed into account when evaluating the value of the customer's vehicle.  Therefore, the customer's claim that she derived no benefit from the work performed by Highway 70 is inaccurate.  In addition, Highway **************************************************************** demanding payment of Highway 70's bill, but would state that Highway 70 was notified that the insurance payment was received by the the customer on July 2, 2024, and that the customer made payment to ************************* on July 8, 2024.  Therefore, this was not a situation in which the insurance company made a check jointly payable to Highway 70 and the customer.  Instead, the customer received the insurance proceeds and then voluntarily paid the outstanding bill.  Finally, in response to the customer's claim that ************************* threatened to place a lien on the vehicle.  Highway 70 categorically denies this allegation.  Highway 70 only asserts liens on unpaid vehicles that remain in its possession.  Again, the customer voluntarily tendered payment a week after receiving the insurance proceeds representing the total loss of her vehicle the valuation of which was, in part, based on repairs performed by Highway 70.

My vehicle would not start on 4/16/24. I had the vehicle towed to Highway 70 Car Care. On 4/17/24, Highway 70 Car Care told me that I would need a new starter. They replaced the starter, and I picked up the vehicle later that day. At my vehicle, a mechanic met me and informed me that the vehicle might make an abnormal noise when starting, but that was normal, and I should not be worried. He also told me that the noise may or may not go away over time. When I started the vehicle I noted a concerning grinding noise. He reassured me that was normal for a new starter and that there was no issue. On 4/18/24, I contacted my previous mechanic about the issue. He told me to take the vehicle back and have Highway 70 Car Care take a second look at it. He was concerned that the noise may be causing other damages to the vehicle. On 4/19/24, I took the vehicle back to Highway 70 Car Care. After having my vehicle for approximately 1 hour, they again stated that there was no issue with the starter or the car, and the noise was normal for a new starter. They assured me that a Mopar starter was placed on my vehicle. I asked if they would provide me with a warranty, but they declined. They also could not provide me with any supporting documentation of the parts used on my vehicle when asked. I then took the vehicle to a local Dodge dealership. On 4/25/24, the dealership informed me that it was not a Mopar starter. Pictures were sent to me showing the difference between a Mopar starter vs. what Highway 70 Car Care installed on my car. My starter was replaced with a proper Mopar started and was picked up on 4/26/24. On start-up, no abnormal noises are present, and the vehicle operates without issue. I'm including pictures of the two different starters. I also have a more detailed statement attached.

Customer was sold a new starter with a 2 year / ****** mile warranty.  This customer still has this warranty.  Vehicle was towed in with a no start.  Upon diagnosing the vehicle, we found the starter to be bad.  Once the starter was removed, we found abnormal wear on the fly wheel.  We installed new starter and the vehicle started and ran.  Customer was notified of findings with the fly wheel and did not want to replace the fly wheel.  Hwy 70 Car Care never refused the warranty on his vehicle.

I am rejecting this response because: I was never offered a warranty when asked. You say that the noise was caused by the flywheel yet when the dodge mechanic replaced the starter with the correct part there is no noises at all. They also confirmed it was not a Mopar starter as you once told me. I was promised one thing and sold another. Your part was causing damage to my flywheel that I had to pay another mechanic to fix.

      Sincerely,
