Auto shop overheated engine causing failure, and did not properly install clutch causing other repairs necessary. Oct 18, 2021 - I took the truck in for diagnosis, was told it was a clutch issue. I also requested that they replace the rear pinon seal. Oct 20, 2021 - Paid $1,417.88 downpayment on clutch. Nov 1, 2021 - Paid $1,307.85 for clutch and $601.68 for rear pinon seal. Nov 3, 2021 - Called them to tell them the clutch did not feel right and that the rear pinon seal was now leaking worse. Returned the truck to the shop. They warrantied the rear pinon seal. Nov 8, 2021 - Personally watched the replacing of the carrier bearing. During this time, the mechanic told me that they put the carrier bearing back in previously in a different position, causing it to push out of the holder (which was the reason it was being replaced). Paid 261.09 for carrier bearing. Nov 11, 2021 - Brought truck back in as the clutch was not right, and the rear pinon seal was still leaking. Nov 12, 2021 - Picked up the truck, was informed that the rear end was now going out and the clutch was fixed. Left shop, less than 5 minutes down the road, 12 engine codes light up. Nov 15, 2021 - Returned truck to shop, told them to keep it until it was fixed (clutch still not working). Informed the shop that I just wanted it fixed properly. Nov 29, 2021 - Picked truck up from the shop. Less than 5 minutes down the road, 15 engine codes, and a knocking in the engine. Dec 15, 2021 - Had truck shipped to mechanic in Texas. Jan 27, 2022 - Mechanic stripped down engine. Found engine was overheated and melted cylinder 6. Feb 2, 2022 - Engine sent to machine shop to be machined.

      Business response

      03/25/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/02/21) */ The customer brought in the high mileage truck with many problems. The clutch had recently been replaced by another shop and she believed they had not done it correctly. The clutch was slipping so bad when she drove it in that we were concerned that she had been driving it that way daily. It took very high rpms for it to even move. When we removed the transmission to inspect the clutch, we found the input shaft bearing to be worn out and input shaft play was loose and out of spec. We recommended a rebuilt transmission and the customer declined, We installed a new clutch assembly and there was a little chattering/vibration in the higher gears. We warrantied the clutch and the labor to make sure it wasn't defective and determined it was the transmission input shaft play and bearing failure causing the problem. Customer again refused to repair or replace the transmission. As for the rear end, carrier bearing and the pinion seal.. We installed a pinion seal and adjusted the pinion to spec, the carrier bearing was good at this time. When it was leaking again after the first replacement we received authorization from the customer to pull the rear dif cover. We found the differential to be completely wore out and had an unacceptable amount of play ( we have pics and video) This was the cause of the seal being damaged and the driveline vibration that took out the carrier bearing. While the truck was at the shop this time we noticed the engine noise(light nocking) and informed the customer. At this time the customer was upset and blamed us for all the problems of her truck, even though they were problems it had when she brought it in. We did not overheat the truck. There was No work done by us on the engine or cooling system. It is unfortunate that the truck needed so many repairs, but these problems were from time, miles, and lack of service and repair. Consumer Response /* (3000, 10, 2022/02/22) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The previous clutch had not been replaced recently. The vehicle was brought in for the clutch and rear pinon seal immediately after they were found needing to be replaced. The information the shop is attempting to provide is false. I did refuse to allow this shop to work on different aspects of the vehicle after they were not able to install the new clutch, or rear Pinon seal properly. I sought out two professional mechanics for advisement. They advised me as a professional courtesy I should allow the shop an attempt to reinstall the clutch correctly. After multiple chances; I received the truck back with multiple codes, and the engine knocking. The professional mechanics looked over the vehicle again. The entire engine needed to be pulled and machined. This was not a building occurrence and it is suspected from both mechanics (independently of one another) that this was from an isolated incident of improper use of the vehicle. At this point I would greatly appreciate a refund, but if at all possible I would prefer this company not to be in a position to where they can take advantage of others.
