On December 23, 2022 I purchased a one year membership for unlimited visits for my family of 4 for $325. 3 weeks later, a notice went out on social meeting that they were closing the location I purchased a membership at because of issues with their lease. I contacted the company requesting a prorated refund, as I purchased a year long membership less than a month ago and now would be out $325. $325 divided by 12 months is roughly $27/monthly so I emailed requesting a refund of $293. I received an email back stating they would refund us only half the amount paid, even though we purchased a year long membership because they estimate annual members to only visit 1x per week. We work very hard for our money, and in this economic environment, cannot afford to lose out on the money we used to pay for what we thought was an entire years worth of service. Had we known the lease of the business was month to month, we never wouldve made a year long investment in the first place. I feel it was unethical to sell year long memberships when there was potential for them to be closing with only one weeks notice. I sent emails stating I wanted to come to a compromise, as I didnt feel that refund amount was fair or ethical. I have received no response to those emails. They refunded half and now will no longer answer my emails or calls. The last time I called and they answered, they stated I should be grateful they are offering any refund because annual memberships are non-refundable I told them I wouldnt have needed a refund if the location hadnt closed, and it was never disclosed that they were no refundable, or that they had signed a lease where their location could be shut down on a weeks notice. A business with a month to month lease should not be selling yearlong memberships, then refusing prorated monthly refunds. Its highly unethical. I am willing to compromise on the refund amount to something we both feel is fair, but 50% is not fair to me and I cant get a response.
