I went to Donald G Hooie DDS to have a root canal done on my bottom left tooth and he drilled past the apex of the tooth into my jaw leaving debris behind and causing me an infection as soon as I stopped taking the antibiotics he prescribed. After the antibiotic was finished, I suffered for 5 days with excruciating pain in the abdominal area and could not hold anything down causing me to lose 20 lbs.in 5 days before I went to the emergency room for treatment of severe dehydration, I then was put on a stronger antibiotic that caused me dizziness & nausea which caused me to lose another 10 days of work. The er doctor thought I had C. Diff. but after testing was done it was discovered that I did not have that, and all of my other levels were good Upon finding out that I did not have c. diff. we realized the problem was with the root canal itself. I called Dr. Hooie's office and after explaining what all had happened since the procedure, they were very uncaring and "worked me in" 3 days later. When at his office for the appointment the staff as well as Dr. Hooie was very rude, he looked at my tooth and gum area as well as took an x-ray. He said everything he did was fine and that what I was feeling in that area was "phantom" pain. I did not agree so he said for another $7,000 he could help me. After this appt. I did not feel comfortable going back to him, so I scheduled an appt. with another dentist for a 2nd opinion, this dentist confirmed there was debris left and that Dr. Hooie had drilled past the apex. To have that corrected would have been very expensive, and after all I had been through, I chose to have the tooth pulled. I let Dr. Hooie's office know that I had it pulled and that I would not be needing the crown, or any other work done by him as I was now uncomfortable there, instead of being understanding his office staff chose to yell at me and demand that I pay for the crown. I have now lost a total of 4 weeks of work as well as the high cost of an er visit.
