I was attending Freed Hardeman University to receive an endorsement in Mental Health. I was told by my advisor **************** that I needed to drop my classes before the drop deadline to avoid failing the class and owing money. He advised me nothing would be owed. Im not understanding why nobody from financial aid contacted me when he advised students to drop to make sure they understand the next steps. Now I owe the university ******** and can't get my transcript. The ***** is from a refund check I received from unsubsidized loans. The school has now sent my account to collections saying that I owe them money. I have asked why do I owe them and not my service provider. They continue to give me false information. They also put on my credit report I was affected by a natural disasterBusiness response

***************************** withdrew after the University's drop/add deadline. The student refund had already been processed. In accordance with federal regulations, part of the student's loans were returned. This created a balance due.Customer response

I attended **** Hardeman in the past but at the time of attending I experienced some personal things that were out of my control which caused my grades to drop in my classes I was taking. I was going to continue taking the classes but **************** reached out and advised me to drop all of my classes because from his opinion I wouldnt pass. He had me fill out a form and submit it to the proper person. He explained that he felt like that would be best for me right now and be my that Ive never went through this process before I honestly didnt know how it worked and I just rusted him and took his word being that he was my advisor and I felt like he was being supportive only to find out months later that I was being charged for withdrawing from classes. I hate that nobody explained that part to me and here I am now cant get my transcript and *** paid for it at least twice and nobody has refunded my money being that Im not able to receive it. I also have read were its against the law for institutions to hold your transcript. I am asking that you all release my official transcript so that I am able to be successful in life especially being that this process was not explained thoroughly by my advisor. If this has happened to me ****** how many other students have experienced this same issue. Advisors are suppose to make sure everything is clear. Instead of showing compassion I feel like I was set up to fail.Business response

Are you able to provide clarification regarding what additional information is needed to resolve this complaint? Beyond the initial response of our institution following the federal guideline for processing a student refund, I'm unsure what additional information is needed.
