Paid off a loan several months ago. It still shows as owing on my credit reports. I have visited the office where I had the loan 3-4 times asking that the loan show as being paid off. They haven’t done anything about it.Initial Complaint

1st Heritage mailed me an unsolicited "live check" for $******** on 12/13/2022. I discovered this because they added a hard inquiry to my Equifax credit report which I disputed in addition to placing a fraud alert on my credit reports. My credit score at TransUnion was 830 on that date so I am the most unlikely of persons to need a small, or any, loan at 44% interest. That should have been a red alert for 1st Heritage if someone using my name applied for that kind of loan -- unless they just made an internal mistake by posting someone else's loan to my SSN and credit reports. I called their office in Mississippi (the number provided me by Equifax) 12/15/2022 and was told to shred the check when I received it and there would be no loan (which I did). I asked them to take my name off their mailing lists and close the fraudulent loan. On 2/1/2023, 1st Heritage added a loan of $1,747~ to my credit reports. They also reported that the "Responsibility is Undesignated" and reported "Remarks Deceased". I am totally confused especially when my TransUnion score went from 830 to 0 after 1st Heritage's report. I wrote a letter to Sandi ****** (with all supporting documents) of 1st Heritage on 3/3/23 after disputing this with TransUnion. I haven't heard from her at all and my TransUnion dispute hasn't been resolved. On 3/15/23, I filed a complaint with TN Dept. of Financial Institutions. They immediately contacted 1st Heritage, giving them 15 days to respond. TDFI asked for a copy of loan records plus any live check (front & back) that might have been cashed in addition to a plan to resolve my credit reporting. Hopefully, TDFI will have the power to get this resolved for me. In the meantime, I feel the public should know about 1st Heritage's loan practices. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide me in resolving this issue.Customer response

CASE RESOLVED
Thank you for trying to help me resolve this issue. I'm so sorry First Heritage never contacted you. They have finally resolved the issue. I received a letter from them dated April 12 stating that I was NOT responsible for the loan and asking for 30 days to remove the account from my credit history. Today, April 25, the account was removed from my TransUnion account and my score is back up to 829. PTL!!!
I only hope they will start being more careful when checking credit scores - and be certain that they have the right person. I'm not the only person who has the same name as others. I contacted them back in December, 2022, to let them know it wasn't me who applied for a loan after seeing a hard inquiry on my Equifax account, but they did not bother to double check. That's not responsible!!
Again, thank you! Sincerely, Susan H. ****
