We had several jobs that Cruze Consstruction said they could perform. The 1st, add a roof to & replace any needed lumber on our back deck. They finished, we were satisfied, paid them the bal. & had them move on to our next task. Windows, exterior doors & vinyl siding. We noticed no issues, at first, he was paid. 3rd project was the addition of a short wall/doorway. During the progress, there was contention among the owner (Terry Cruze) & his brother, who was his employee. He began to send his older son to finish the job. I noticed the wall was curved. When I asked his son, he said, “I don’t know. I’ve never done finishing work.” We called Mr. Cruze to come assess the job. When he saw the work, he told us that he couldn’t afford to keep sending workers to our home- we were being too picky. He quit the job & asked us to pay him for 1/2! We declined. He asked for draws (partial payment) throughout all the jobs, which we obliged. Fast forward about 1.5 yr. A leak starts in my kitchen ceiling. The room adjacent to the deck. We called our ins. company. After 2 teams of restoration to dry everything in our attic out, 1 insurance adjuster & 2 different contractors- all deemed the leak was a result of the deck roof being improperly attached. Our ins. has a clause that says they will not pay for “negligent contractor work”- so they refuse to pay. 1 of the previous contractors who checked the leak & a 2nd roofing contractor who gave us an estimate said the entire roof would need to be replaced to guarantee no further leaks. I repeatedly attempted to contact Mr. Cruze, including a certified letter, no response. We’re closing in on the statute of limitations expiring so our only choice is to have it replaced(our expense) & file a lawsuit for our losses. Our roof was only 8 yrs old!! I recommended him to 2 other people- both who had problems with his work. Oh! And he came back to our house to retrieve leftover material (that we paid for) to use on other jobs.
