I've banked with TVA for two decades. Until recently, it was just the place my money was kept. Everyone there had always been friendly and I had no issues, until I decided to take out a mortgage. You do not have the ability to automatically pay your mortgage with funds in your TVA Checking - it must be done by their mortgage team. Last year, their auto pay stopped when the escrow increased by $2; I missed a mortgage payment. They called, back dated the payment, and updated the auto pay. Annoying, but fine. This year, I was not informed and they left the auto pay off for 3 months. I have a lot of personal tragedy currently taking place and wasn't paying a ton of attention to my bank account. There was enough available for 6 months of mortgage payments. But, when my credit dropped 103 points, I noticed. Checking in on my accounts, they had taken the missed payments - they were capable of it the entire time. They just waited until my credit took a dive to do anything. When I called, asking why I wasn't notified in any way, the only answer I was given was "We sent you an escrow change letter, in January." Great. Thanks. If you just need a place to keep money, they're passable. For any banking beyond that, look elsewhere.Review from Connie K

Have had a savings account for years and have been very happy with them and all customer service I have received. In addition I received timely notices by text when there was suspected fraudulent activity on my debit card. It was reported and resolved in a timely manner. Very pleased with the Market Square office as that is where I have done most of my business.Review from Phil Y

Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union is, by far, the WORST financial institution I have ever dealt with, and in 81 years I have dealt with a lot of them. Their website is anything but user friendly, the customer service, for a lack of a better word, sucks, and I have two loans through them - a car loan and a visa card. While the car loan will accept electronic transfer from my bank, the visa card will not. I attempted to set up an electronic transfer and was told they cannot do it - while they can with the auto loan. I inadvertently, forgot a visa loan payment for Dec in the amount of ******* When I was notified of the discrepancy I informed them that I would make it up in Jan, and told them two more times after that. Since then I, and my wife, have received 2 letters of "past due" and 1 letter stating that the matter was under investigation by the collection department. Amount in question is for $30. I have returned a payment of **** which will pay off the account. As of this date it still has not been posted (because a paper check had to be sent to them from my bank) and it takes them forever to get it posted (not due until the 25th).Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union Response

I have always made payments two or three months ahead of the due date; for some reason, you are charging me a late fee on a payment due on 10/26/23 that was cashed by TVA CU on 9/18/23! Have you no shame? Why are you charging me a late fee on a payment that was made more than a month ahead of the due date. I guess you are just as bad as any given bank! SHAME ON YOU! I will report this egregious lack of upstanding businessship to any and every agency possible as well as social media. I will NEVER do or recommend doing business with you again! I am appalled and sickened by your greedy and... whatever; you have lost all of any confidence I might have had in you.Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union Response

I have been a member with TVA for at least 15-20 years. I have done several loans with them. The most recent I just did, spoke with Tammy Myers. After her stating my loan approval, which I have excellent credit and knew it would be, she goes over payments with me. Little did I know my payment was packed with life ins and disability and who knows what else. Ok, fine, maybe they’re trained to do that. She very vaguely mentioned it was “included” in my payment at the end. I said what is my payment with nothing extra added to it. It was much lower. I said that I don’t want anything and would pass on the extra. Hard enough to pay 9% with excellent credit. Went to finish paperwork, and everything looked good. The box with extra options was checked “No protection” so I signed off and good to go. Not so good when I get my first payment and see $-45.38 added to my principle. I clearly stated nothing extra, signed off on no other options and still she adds it to my loan after I signed all docs. This can’t be legal. I call TVA and they say they can’t do anything about it but give me a number to call that can help. So I’m spending my day trying to contact this other company and cancel whatever Tammy decides she needed to add to my loan after all docs were signed. I cannot believe TVA allows this to happen to their members. I will be refinancing asap. I’m highly upset with them. I work too hard to have someone take money from me like that. It’s just not right. I hate to leave this review, but I want others to look closely at what they are paying and don’t let them take money from you that you did not know about.Review from Kathy S

Had financial problems due to a traumatic injury. Would not work with us on payments (take a partial of what we could afford). Suggested we let all others go to pay them (including house payment and utilities). Used threatening and degrading language. Explained employment had been obtained, but would not give time to catch up. Offered to do a voluntary repossession of vehicle, but they had many restrictions and business time constraints that did not work with the job schedule, forcing an involuntary repossession. Horrible customer service all around. Representatives at branch level always act like you are a bother to them. So different from the normal credit union experience where you are a member, not just a customer. This is a company no one should do business with. And the hours are so restricted that it makes it difficult for the normal working person to be able to do business with. And if considering doing any type of lending product please be aware that they have very poor business policies. A huge fail all around.Review from Dorothy D
