February 2022 my husband and I entered into an agreement with Appalachian Grit to rebuild a deck and install a patio with landscaping on our property. Work began and appeared to progress. The project was scheduled to be complete by May 15 2022. We have yet to have the planters, sand for the patio, additional plants and 2 yards of mulch to be delivered. During the work process, the wiring to an outside lamppost was cut and this was also to have been corrected by Appalachian Grit. The wiring was delivered but they never completed - we had to have outside help come in and take care of this and get the lamp reset. I have contacted the owner of the company and he states he has the property that we have paid for, however he is not willing to deliver said property much less complete the job that was agreed to. It is now mid August 2022 and this still needs to be resolved.

We first met with *** ****** of Appalachian Grit (AG) at our home in mid-July 2021, for a site visit preceding (we hoped) landscape design and installation. After discussing the property and our needs, Mr. ****** informed us that, in order to produce the design and an itemized estimate for the work, he needed $2000. This $2000 would also go toward the installation if we hired AG to create the design. We paid Mr. ****** upfront, emphasizing our wish to proceed with a portion of the work in time for autumn planting. Mr. ****** and his partner ***** ******* returned to our house 8/2/21 to provide us with a "partial design, just so we'd have something" before ****** was to go out of town the following week. The bird's-eye-view design was completely unlabelled. Mr. ******* handed us a typewritten list of "native plants" that he said they would use. We said we appreciated the rush to provide us with "something," but that the design did not make sense to us visually without any labels to denote or differentiate between the colored areas on the page. Mr. ******* promised to send us a digital copy of the design, completely labelled. At this time, Mr. ****** said he had not had time to get the estimates needed for the work. We agreed at that time (8/2/21) that AG should just focus on two high-priority areas, to save them time getting estimates and labelling the design. On 8/16/21 Mr. ****** emailed us to see if we were OK with the design, so he could "finalize the design and estimates" for our project. We informed him that we still had not received the labelled design from Mr. ******** My husband and Mr. ****** had a long phone conversation on 8/18/21 in which we asked again for the labelled design and explain our concerns. We wrote and emailed detailed letter (8/20/21), again specifying priority areas and asking for estimates. We have never received a completed design or estimate, and, although we have asked for a refund, AG does not respond to our messages.
