Barnett Roofing(BR) was the General Contractor for my recent roof repair at BR failed on significant elements of repair; most notably the structural framing that supports the roof. The following repairs were needed where a tree fell on December 11, 2021: roofing, underlying structural framing, and interior living space repairs. BR met with my insurance adjuster on Dec. 18 to understand the scope of the project. BR then committed to completing the entire project either themselves or via their subcontractors. BR employed subcontractors to complete gutters and interior work. BR completed the structural framing repairs and roofing repairs in one day on Feb. 28, 2022. Following BR's original Feb. 28 repair, the roof showed signs of serious issues that didn't exist prior to the damage from tree - An irregular mound in the roof a crack at the roof peak had formed. I alerted BR to these outward signs of significant structural issues on March 28 with photos that my tenant took in March. At that time, I still agreed to pay 60% of the invoice as a sign of good faith. We agreed I'd pay the rest after I confirmed the work was acceptable in person. In April BR allegedly went back to the property to resolve these issues. I visited the house in May after BR had told me they fixed the structural issues I told them about in March. May Photos from inside the attic are attached show they didn't do anything. Because there was so much unacceptable work that couldn't all be explained here, I created BBBOverviewGraphic.pdf to help put the photos in context of the overall project. Yellow planks from the diagram represent new repaired portions of framing by BR, and brown planks represent existing structure to which most of the new work was sistered. A contractor who is capable of doing this job right, wouldn't have done it this wrong in the first place, and wouldn't have tried to pass it off as acceptable a second time. Thank you for your time.

      Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 8, 2022/08/01) */ Hello, We have all text correspondence with the home owner. He had ignored many attempts to meet with us at the property with my project manager, from the moment the issue was found. Consumer Response /* (3000, 10, 2022/08/07) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) I do not accept this response. It's a complete departure from reality. We're not even operating under the same set of facts. This is why I felt arbitration was necessary to begin with. It's going to be impossible to reach an agreement if we're not operating under the same basic facts. Just to re-summarize what's occurred since the issue was found: On February 28 Barnett roofing completed the structural repairs and exterior roofing in one day. On March 28 I alerted Barnett Roofing to the major structural issues resulting from their original attempt to repair on Feb. 28. It was at this time I paid $15,000 of the invoice as a show of good faith even though I had concerns with the work. On March 28 **** Barnett and I agreed that I would pay the remainder of the invoice after they fixed the issues and I had visited in person to verify the work had been completed satisfactorily. I gave them access to the property to fix these issues whenever they wanted as long as I had 24 hours notice. They subsequently accessed the property at least twice that I am aware of. **** Barnett, the owner, accessed the property sometime between March 28 and April 4 according to a text he sent me on April 4. This text said ***, his foreman, would have to go back to form his opinion on April 4 as well. I'm not sure if *** went on April 4 to look at things or not. He certainly had my permission, and at no point have I ignored any attempts to resolve this. *** and I did set up for him to return on April 15 to "fix the issues." *** returned to the property on April 15. I heard nothing else from Barnett Roofing regarding the matter until May 13 when **** Barnett emailed me asking for the rest of the payment as they had completed the repairs. I replied on May 13 that I would be at the property on May 25 to make sure things had been taken care of, and as long as things were ok I would make immediate payment. As the original complaint shows, I found things were very far from ok when I visited on May 25. Barnett Roofing had 2 full months of unhindered access to the property to make sure the issues they caused had been addressed before my May 25 visit. They did absolutely nothing to address the structural issues in that 2 months, despite telling me otherwise and then asking for full payment. We're not at a point where I can wait and see if they actually do what they need to do to make this right. I need concrete assurance that this is going to get taken care of. At the very least that has to start with Barnett Roofing acknowledging the fact that they've had abundant opportunity to do the right thing, but for whatever reason have been unable to.
