    On 6/10/2022, on referral from a plumber locally, contacted Patriot to help with water damage mediation and potential restoration to follow. Patriot was prompt, I can say that. They showed up with a commercial dehumidifier (which I think they ended up overcharging for) the same day they were contacted. Unfortunately, turns out that is their hook. They get started quickly to make you feel like you are locked in, only to fall victim to their practice of billing whatever the heck they want. Yes, they did provide a written quote/estimate for my inspection prior to major intervention, but seemed to me at the time it didn't really matter what they thought it would ultimately cost because it was only an estimate and it was enough for me to file with insurance, and thus I would only be out-of-pocket my deductible. I was clear that I was using insurance at the time. And yet, despite assurances to the contrary that they would be happy to talk to my insurance (and UNlike every other disaster contractor I know of), they actually refused to talk to/work with my insurance company to settle the claim. Literally, didn't return phone calls or emails from insurance. After the mitigation work over, upon me noting the discrepancy between the bill and the insurance check, I noted I did not desire to short change anyone and yet I simply asked Patriot to work out the discrepancy with my insurance adjuster (as again that IS standard practice), but Patriot asserted that their contract was with me (and me alone), and if insurance didn't agree with whatever Patriot charged, that was MY problem to deal with. So, under threat of their attorney (legal fees/arbitration fees/compounding interest etc) I HAD to pay exorbitant balance/"surprise" bill at the end, and am now stuck dealing insurance alone (arguing by myself what might be "industry standard" steps and pricing), hoping to scrape my hard-earned dollars back that were paid out over and above my deductible.
