My complaint is in regards to IngramSpark Publishers.I chose to publish a volume of poetry and photographs. It was suggested by friends that I use their services. I made a promise to my late father and sister that I would publish a volume of poems but only after I retired. I have no illusions of the book being a best seller or a money maker. I have always written most of my poetry in classic forms, such as sonnets and villanelles. The point was to get my ISBN # and put it in local libraries. I was a public school teacher and teachers today must be very careful to not upset a politically charged public. I wanted no merchandising and I edited the book myself. I have self published for years and have the educational credentials to do that. The editing group that they suggested I use (BaseCamp) took seven months to release my book to the publisher IngramSpark. I was told by the editing group, I would get 5 free copies to help promote my book talks. That was untrue. I was told I would be able to preview a copy for purposes of okaying the sharpness of the photos. I never got a choice of papers or inks. They ran the book and put it up for sale on Amazon without me seeing a proof copy. I finally had to buy my own book and the printing was unacceptable and the photography was blurry. I also have augmented my teacher salary as a photographer, and I have self published for years. I know what is acceptable and what is not. I have had to ask my customers not to purchase the book (friends, fellow teachers) because it does not look presentable. It is going on two months and IngramSpark has not let me speak to a live representative. Retired teachers dont have the funds to take on major publishers. I either want my money back or more preferably an agreement on how we can get the book published to a quality level that is acceptable to both sides. Can you imagine a parent calling a school to discuss their childs progress and not talking to a live person for weeks?
