James ******** II is supposedly a licensed general contractor in Tennessee. He has charged me more than $16,000 for services that he has not completed. I would say that he has completed around half of the work. He also accepted a $2000 check from a friend of mine back in January, for countertops that he has never delivered. Regarding my renovation, he has only completed about half of the work. He refuses to answer my calls, emails or texts. I have paid him in full for above-referenced services. Yes, I'm accepting the responsibility for my own stupidity and paying him in advance and trusting my "very good friend" who recommended him. My "very good friend" was in fact that, but now, he will not advocate on my behalf and I'm left with this mess entirely by myself. I can provide screenshots of our text dialogue over past five months. It clearly documents how he accepted payment, promised to do the work, accepted payment of $2k for countertops that my friend purchased, statements that he'd deliver countertops and statements that he would arrive on certain days and start/finish projects for which he was paid. I'm just not certain how much of that the BBB would like to validate this complaint. Let me know and I'll happily comply.

James V. is a thief. If I could give a rating of less than one star, I would. I hired him in the fall of 2021 to do some home renovations. I paid him in full, as he was supposed to start work the very next day. That was in February. It is now June. He never completed any of the projects for which I paid him. He consistently and frequently informed me that he would begin on approximately seventeen separate dates. He did charge me $7900 for custom made cabinetry from Knox Rail Salvage. He did deliver those cabinets to me, unassembled, and they sat in my garage for three weeks in their boxes. He did return to assemble them, though he did a very poor job, and he never attached the hardware. One of the doors has already fallen off, after approximately using it only about ten times. I spoke with Knox Rail and they said that they adamantly prefer to assemble their cabinets on site, so they can bond the hardware to the lumber, to avoid exactly what happened. My suspicion is that he chose to deliver them unassembled so he could save money on renting a U-Haul. He also charged me $3340 for trim work, baseboards and crown molding. He delivered the lumber to my YARD in February. He promised me he would be back to install and finish the job the very next day. He never came back to do the trim. It sat in my yard for two days before I finally moved it to my screened in porch, where I covered it with plastic. It sat in my screened in porch for months, because he consistently informed me that he'd be back at my house each week to install it. I finally moved it inside of my home in May, at which point it was warped. He also charged me $1200 for a closet build out that he never completed. He simply constructed the closet and then outsourced the dry wall. He was supposed to hang the doors for the closet though he never did. He also charged me $475 for wall repair that he never completed. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH JAMES V., DBA ETIC. You will regret it.
