Original estimate for vehicle repairs was $4500. Final bill was $5400. Additional work was completed without authorization and used parts were used without prior consent. Proprietor threatened to keep my vehicle if the final bill of was not paid and he would charge me $65 for every day he kept my vehicle.

**************** in response to you complaint.  After researching this matter, there seem to be confusion about the repairs done to your vehicle.  Your initial estimate was done via e-mail photos, site un-seen, in which you relayed the estimate to your father.  After vehicle was towed to our shop, we un-earth of the damages, the back hatch components which your photos did not reviled.  You seem to be confused about the dent on both estimates, that is not where the price difference comes from.  It was the back hatch components  which you wanted to discuss with your father.  He wanted to leave off some needed repairs and you were aware of the price difference before you came to pick up your vehicle.  Your father wanted to negotiate a lower price that is not the wan we do our business.  We preform several no-charge services because we've done a lot of business with your employer ( Big-Mistake) on our part.  Now you father feels that he can get a lower price by threatening our business.  You said the work was to your satisfaction "Perfect".  My suggestion to you is to get full insurance coverage on your vehicle.  For it is a requirement in the ***********.  In conclusion the work we've preformed was to your satisfaction and you were aware of any price increase for the additional services before you got to the shop.  There will not be any financial consideration from us.  Your father should not have put you in a predicament  as such, but to exercise good character.

      Respectfully Yours,

      OAPABW

      Complaint: 21052988

I am rejecting this response because:
I received an estimate based off of pictures initially but received the same estimate ($4,538.88 in total) after I paid for the parts ($1,530.25) a few days later and was given a receipt for the remaining balance. A day later the owner called to tell me there were 2 dents he initially didnt see in the pictures l. I told him I needed to call my father about it because he would pay the remaining balance. After speaking with him, I called the owner again and told him not to fix those dents because it was not in my fathers budget. ***** said ok and again gave me the balance that was previously stated. I never received an email or a call from the shop owner after that time until I was told the car was ready 7 weeks later. In that time though, I called and went in person to check in the status of my car with my one of my managers. I saw the dents were fixed without my knowledge and ***** told my manager over the phone that I wouldnt be charged. The Tuesday before I picked up on that Friday, I called and the owner gave me the balance which was off. I called back and spoke to his coworker and told him to tell the owner the balance was different and for him to give me a call. I also sent an email with no response. When ***** called Thursday 12/21 to tell me the car was ready I spoke to him about this and he said he had to fix one of the dents to get the hatch on. I told him thats an is*** because he never told me that and regardless he didnt have authorization from me. His own contract states that, If upon further inspection additional parts or repairs are needed, you and your insurance company will be contacted for further authorization. TN law requires it as well (TN Code 66-19-104). He apologized and admitted he didnt remember some of our conversations. I told him wed discuss it with him tomorrow at pick up since I couldnt afford it and my dad was paying with a cashiers check that he already cut for the balance on the contract I signed. Ill add that I never signed or was asked to sign any other contract except the one he gave me in person after I paid for the parts with the balance as $3,008.63. At pick up, he reiterated that the additional cost was for the dents that I told him not to fix with the remaining balance now $3,930.42. Since one dent was deemed necessary by him, my dad then tried to reason with him and offered half of the around $900 in cash for the one dent. He then changed his story and said it was because he had to get a used hatch that already had the glass in it that was more expensive. Again, was never told about this or authorized a used part. When we crunched the numbers, it still came out to around the same as the original estimate with the new hatch plus glass. When my dad pointed this out, ***** became irate and said he now would not accept our cashiers check and we had to pay all cash or he would keep my car and charge me $65 a day to keep until paid. For safety reasons, my dad told me to start recording and the owner threatened to *** us. Without any other options since he said the police wouldnt help us as hes dealt with this before, we got the cash and came back and asked why he made us pay all cash and he said temperament. He had 7 weeks to tell us of any needed repairs and get authorization but he didnt. Instead, he chose to fix things without my knowledge or permission, leaving us with a large, unexpected expense  and threats to hold my car hostage.
      Sincerely,

      ***************************

**************** we did contact you about the revised estimate, you wanted to talk with your Father. It is not good to lie to save your relationship with your Father, I could see that at the time of pickup. I would suggest that you be forth coming with him, to avoid more distress. The work we performed was " perfect " you said, the issue here is the lack finances on you and your Fathers part. Our decision stands. It seems that your Father has issues with African American People, I understand.
