- Complaint Type:
- Service or Repair Issues
- Status:
- Resolved
Service Date 1/07/2022 Amount Paid $6500.00 Extremely poor-quality work. The new HVAC system that was installed was scratched and dented (furnace panels, condenser coil). A 21-year-old PVC drain line was not replaced. An old outdoor electric panel disconnect box was not replaced as agreed. I paid for the replacement box, and installation. The heater plenum was not properly sealed and leaks air when the furnace fan is on. Copper tubing insulation was torn by hand, and not cut to fit the copper HVAC lines. Rubber grommets on the furnace were left un-secured and leaking air. The outdoor A/C condenser lines (copper) were not properly insulated. Some old copper lines were not replaced at all. The project manager suggested the 21-year-old lines were better quality then todays up to date copper. A hole in the exterior brick wall where the lines enter the home was left unsealed. I contacted the owner the following day with a text message, provided 17 pictures of the poor workmanship, and suggested that the work reflects very poorly on his business. His text response was "I agree". The project manager came to my home the following week and said all issues would be corrected. The company has failed to follow through on equipment replacement, proper installation of all components, and any further communications.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 7, 2022/04/08) */ We met with on January 11, 2022. We ordered the parts on January 13, 2022: new panels, rubber grommets, disconnect, etc. We will also cleanly cut the copper tubing, repair hole in the wall. PVC drain and replacement of old copper lines were not part of the original contract. He requested that all work be done at one future date after the parts arrived. We are still waiting for the parts as they will take 90-100 days to arrive. Consumer Response /* (3000, 9, 2022/04/10) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) There needs to be complete clarity and transparency with a detailed list of ALL of the repairs and replacement of equipment listed on the complaint. I request a qualified person at Renner read the complaint and respond accordingly. A qualified person would not have suggested buying replacement grommets, or cutting the copper tubing, unless that were to be done, as it should have been, to replace the existing 21 year old copper lines. The project manager agreed to correct all items listed in the complaint. Photos detail the deficiencies. I paid $6500.00 for a completely new HVAC system. A new drain line is absolutely a part of an HVAC system. Business Response /* (4000, 18, 2022/04/20) */ Service Date 1/07/2022 Amount Paid $6500.00 Extremely poor-quality work. The new HVAC system that was installed was scratched and dented (furnace panels, condenser coil). (New panels are still on back-order from manufacturer.) A 21-year-old PVC drain line was not replaced. (We do not replace unless it is leaking. It was not included in the contract.) An old outdoor electric panel disconnect box was not replaced as agreed. (This will be replaced when we come back with other parts.) The heater plenum was not properly sealed and leaks air when the furnace fan is on. (We will fix this small leak when we return.) Copper tubing insulation was torn by hand, and not cut to fit the copper HVAC lines. (We will cut this evenly when we return.) Rubber grommets on the furnace were left un-secured and leaking air. (We ordered new grommets and we will replace.) The outdoor A/C condenser lines (copper) were not properly insulated. (We can fix foam tubing.) Some old copper lines were not replaced at all. The project manager suggested the 21-year-old lines were better quality then todays up to date copper. (We do not replace lines unless they are leaking. This was not part of the contract. We did flush the lines as part of the installation.) A hole in the exterior brick wall where the lines enter the home was left unsealed. (We can put some foam in there when we come back. Since we did not replace the lines, we did not do anything to them.) I contacted the owner the following day with a text message, provided 17 pictures of the poor workmanship, and suggested that the work reflects very poorly on his business. His text response was "I agree". The project manager came to my home the following week and said all issues would be corrected. The company has failed to follow through on equipment replacement, proper installation of all components, and any further communications. (These parts are on order. We check daily and they have not arrived at the supply house yet. We could not even purchase a new 3 ton unit at the supply house today so we could swap panels. They are not available at all.) Consumer Response /* (4200, 20, 2022/04/21) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) Service Date 1/07/2022. Amount Paid for new HVAC system, $6500.00. Extremely poor-quality work. As documented previously, supported by photos, Renner Electric, Heating & Cooling installed scratched and dented equipment (furnace panels, condenser coil). The owner has again failed to mention replacement of the damaged A/C condenser that was installed. The day after installation, I contacted the owner, provided 17 pictures of the poor workmanship and damaged equipment, and suggested that the work reflects very poorly on his business. His text response was "I agree". The project manager came to my home the following week and said all issues would be corrected. There continues to be no mention of replacing the damaged A/C condenser that was installed. I did not pay for a scratch and dent installation. I paid $6500.00 for a new HVAC system. A 21-year-old drain line is a part of an HVAC system. So are the copper lines that the system cannot function without. The owner continues to suggest he will replace the rubber grommets for the furnace. As I have clearly stated, and the owner is keenly aware, the grommets are there, they were just not secured, causing air leakage (just another reflection of poor-quality work). The owner continues to fail to acknowledge replacement of the damaged A/C condenser, replacement of a 21-year-old PVC drain line, and replacement of 21-year-old copper service lines. As the owner is going so far as to say that equipment, commonly REQUIRED to operate an HVAC system, is not a part of the $6500.00 contract, I would like to have my complaint and supporting photos be a part of the permanent record with the BBB. Renner Electric, Heating & Cooling should not be supported in taking advantage of people who give them their trust. Clearly, I made a tremendous mistake by paying for the new HVAC installation in advance, and Renner absolutely took advantage. If I can help one person or family from being taken advantage of, I certainly want to do so.
