Hired contractor for roof replacement after hail damage: - contract for $5000 to upgrade my shingles to a specific type. Texted me while I’m out of town trying to get me to agree to $12000 due to increased costs after shingles were already delivered. I asked for proof of cost with receipts which were never provided. He billed me and demands $10000 for upgrade ($5000 more than contract) - contract included putting ice and water shield on all perimeter of house and valleys. Product was not placed on nearly 50% of perimeter. He told me it was “under the synthetic underlayment.” I got my own ladder and proved it was not as he said. Roofer then put ice and water shield in some perimeter areas. However roof was already installed on most of perimeter at that time. - contractor damaged my gutters in several areas and very poorly reinstalled them after replacing roof. He sent a gutter contractor to quote for repair and never followed through. Claims insurance didn’t pay him to reinstall them and that they must have been poorly installed originally. They are less than 3 years old and were inspected by insurance prior to roof install and were not damaged in any way.

Layne Tech Roofing has worked tirelessly to please Dr. ********, but to no avail.  We entered into a contract with  Dr. ******** to replace his roof using insurance proceeds and any upgrade expenses would be out of his pocket.

Originally, Dr. ******** requested a luxury shingle upgrade. Layne Tech Roofing quoted an upgrade for that shingle.  When Layne Tech Roofing ordered the materials, it was brought to our attention by the distributor that specialty ridge and starter shingles were required which totaled an additional $7000. We notified Dr. ******** of this and he negotiated the price down to an additional $5000.

Once work commenced, Dr. ******** insisted that we install a colored "w" (open) valley rather than the closed valley system as noted on the contract and that we remove and replace the second story modified bitumen roofing which was not part of the insurance claim.   Both of these requests added significant additional costs to Layne Tech Roofing in not only materials, but also labor; however, we did not pass those costs onto Dr. ********.

Regarding the issue of the ice and water shield, per our contract with Dr. ********, Layne Tech Roofing was to install ice and water shield in the valleys, on the front window eyebrow and along the perimeter flange of the roof which we did.

As far as the gutters are concerned, Layne Tech Roofing sent out our gutter guy to assess the situation and he has advised us that, due to the nature of the gutters, specialty wedges are required which have been ordered.  Layne Tech Roofing has advised Dr. ******** of this and he did not have any complaints at that time.

We have not made any "demands" for payment as we understand that the gutters need to be addressed.  Work was completed August 11, 2023.  An invoice was sent to Dr. ******** August 22, 2023.  He still owes us $12,445.79 for his $87,445.79 roof.  We are surprised by this complaint and it obviously an attempt to not pay the rest of the bill.

Please note contract and text messages.
