I am filing a complaint because I am highly upset with how my son's account was handled by Behavioral Innovations billing department over the past few months. My son first started going to BI in 2020 and I never had a problem with his billing until now. First off, when I originally spoke to his private pay representative back in August of 2022; she informed me that the past due balance on my son's account was only $1,065.91. So, I paid that amount off and was expecting to have just his normal balance of the out-of-pocket max. Then after almost a month, I learned that my son had an additional past due balance of $614 which was not communicated to me from his billing department. I was under the impression that the amount that was communicated to me in August was all that was owed. Therefore, I had to spend an additional $614 that I could not afford at the time, but I went ahead and paid it to bring his account current so that his account would not be placed on hold. What upsets me the most is that, I normally am able to be placed on a payment assistance program which was very helpful and made paying for ABA therapy very affordable for me. But this year Behavioral Innovations billing department informed me at the last minute that they no longer offered payment assistance of 12-month payment options. Therefore; at this time, I was left to pay the full balance on my son's account. I became very stressed and I did try communicating with them regarding my situation, but I did not get anywhere. I really wish that their billing department would have communicated during the beginning of my plan year in June, or right before my new plan started that they would no longer offer the payment assistance program anymore. ESPECIALLY to parents who use the payment assistance program like myself! If they were no longer going to offer it, I would have never let my son return to Behavioral Innovations because I could not afford the entire balance of $6,750.
