I was a student at **** and *** from sept 2023 to January 2024 when they abruptly shut my school down. When i withdrew i was told $1707 of my financial aid would be refunded to the government for me to use at my new school in the same loan period. They had 45 days from January 24, 2024 to return the money and they did not. They kept all $5,500 of my loan. I was never awarded that money; it didnt get used towards my education, because they shut the school down. They stole my money.Initial Complaint

I emailed **** and *** on Nov. 4, 2023 and they never responded to my complaint. I also called them 3 times and they never answered the phone. This was regarding my complaint on Sept.26, 2023. Here is the complaint: Hi I went to **** and ********** as a customer on Sept. 26, ******************************************************************A very nice male student was assigned to cut my hair. I wanted a 2 inch trim and some bangs. During the time the student was cutting my hair, he had to wait for approval but the instructor who was heavyset was at lunch. So he got another one. This "instructor" with the blonde hair (white older woman with long hair)came up to me with a bad attitude as if she was highly annoyed to help the student and took out her anger and bad day on me. She came up to me and rough handled my hair without introducing herself or greeting me and roughed up my head and hurt me as she pat the top of my head aggressively. I was just in a bad car accident last year and I still go to physical therapy for neck and shoulder pain. She pat the top my head so hard it it hurt. She was incredibly rude and unprofessional. When I told her to please stop patting my head really hard, her excuse was "I have 3 boys" and she never apologized. I told the male director later after I paid and left. I don't know if he took care of it or not, but all he said was "I hope you come back." He told me her name but I forgot it. There were 2instructors that day: one of them was a very heavyset female with short hair and glasses and the other was the blonde one that was older and slimmer. They both never greeted me and never introduced themselves. They seemed to be having a bad day and a bad attitude; especially the older blonde female instructor with long hair. Then, a week a later, I noticed that the back part of my hair was uneven in certain parts and areas were not cut evenly. I tried to call them but nobody answered the phone. I had been coming here for 4 years.Customer response

The business, **** & Guy Hairdressing- Corporate has NEVER contacted me. Today is January 3, 2023. I have tried to call them several times but my phone number has been blocked. They have been highly unprofessional in resolving this issue. I would like to note that they have never contacted me and have ignored all my complaints even though the student did not cut my hair evenly since he was there only a few weeks and the supervisor was very rude and unprofessional. Please make note on my complaint that they were unprofessional and did not contact me at all.Initial Complaint

I enrolled at Toni and guy in March 2023 I was due to start March 7 of 2023 but the week of I was in a car accident so I had to push my start date to April 4th 2023. The administration had me come in in March to discuss contracts and financial aid before I filled out any contracts or signed any documents they needed me to. Me and my mother sat down with the financial aid advisor for Toni and guy. The lady proceeded to tell us what I would qualify for through financial aid. I was granted pell grants loans for the first semester and then, for the second semester, I was only granted loans. Me and my mother made it very clear that we did not have the money to pay out of pocket, as to where we said multiple times that we did not have the money to pay out of pocket, the financial aid advisor showed us that I would have enough between pell grants and loans to complete school so me and my mom felt comfortable signing their contracts and enrolling me in the school. Fast forward to April 4, in which was my first day and we opened a $3600 kit that was all my supplies that I would need for the school year and i went for a whole week, on the last day of the week i was pulled downstairs and asked to speak with the financial aid advisor because they had just now put me in the system after a whole two months. They waited for me to go to school for 5 days to put me in the system and dive deeper into my fasfa and files. They same financial aid person that told me and my mom that we would not have to pay out-of-pocket multiple times. She proceeded to tell me after five days of going to school and opening at $3600 kit that I now have to pay $938 a month to continue with my education, the financial aid lady stated that I was short $9000 of my tuition and I needed to pay it if I was going to continue to stay in school. nonetheless, I started to break down and cry because I was given false information. We now have to take legal action.Initial Complaint

4/13/2022: I brought my daughter into a Toni & Guy salon to trim her dead ends and the hairstylist accidentally chopped off a 17-inch ponytail from the side of her head, thinking she had thinning shears in her hand. We were not charged for the haircut at the time (however I realized later that I had actually paid for the appointment in advance upon scheduling), but we were also not offered any remedy for this terrible accident other than parting it to the other side. I have still not received a refund to this day. 4/14/2022: After hearing nothing from the salon, the next day, I wrote to Toni & Guy's customer service (email conversation attached) The franchise owner reached out and has expressed his concern and has offered to provide extensions for my daughter until the section grows out in a few years. The company, however, has not responded to any of my subsequent emails about a refund or compensatory damages. I've called and emailed to no avail.Initial Complaint

Our director who had an "open door policy" for students and was NEVER there. I wanted to talk to him about how the teachers here gossiped, talked bad about students to other students, talked bad about students to each other in front of other students, and just made going to school unbearable and anxiety filled for students that weren't favorited by the teachers. By the time the COVID distance learning started I was beginning the most important phase of school, only working on clients and no book work (because we had finished it already) and I didn't get the hands on, client relations experience that was promised for HALF of my time there. Even when we opened back up we were only allowed to have about maybe one client per week. Even during lockdown for the first month or so the only way we could get our hours recorded is if we just were active on the website, not if we actually wanted to practice on a person at home or a mannequin. How do you get an adequate hairdressing education on a computer? No one can control a worldwide pandemic but I didn't get the education I paid for. In the student catalog it says that they'll provide interview and professional resume training as part of the curriculum and my class did NOT receive that. We received a fill-in-the-blank resume that was never reviewed or critiqued, and that was the extent of it. That promise ALONE was a huge reason my parents and I chose TG instead of a cheaper option. Because of the lack of help, I was never able to pursue a career in hairdressing after graduating. The condescending nature of the instructors throughout my time here were so appalling. They had blatant favorites, to where certain people would get punished and the favorites didn't. Favorited students were allowed to sit around and do nothing. The teachers were constantly rude and disrespectful to us and it made going there miserable. Theyre supposed to encourage and teach, not bully and degrade I regret wholeheartedly enrolling in this school.Business response

Business Response /* (1000, 7, 2021/11/17) */ In response to the complaint, we did have to close the school for one month. When we were able to re-open it was for distance learning only as we were not allowed to have students in our facility due to stay at home orders. When we were allowed to have students back in the classroom we were limited due to restrictions from our State Licensure - TDLR. We do offer our students who are struggling with any type of their education the opportunity to return to the school for extra training at no cost to the student. The student may participate in the State Board class which prepares the student to take the state board exam to receive their license.
