I purchased an in-person 30-day course from American Flyers, costing $7,125 upfront. Per their advertisement, this price was to include:- 104 hours class room instruction - 10 hours individual ground instruction - *********************** a plane - 6 hours dual instruction in a simulator The course is designed and advertised that the student will be prepared and ready to take their checkride (oral and flight test) once the course is completed.In my experience, by the end of the course, I only had:- 3 hours individual ground instruction complete.- 8.5 hours instruction in a pane complete - 4 hours dual instruction in a simulator complete.Additionally, the course was advertised to have four days of split teach- there is no instructor for this. Our course ended up having a total of eight days with no instructor in the classroom.During the course, the students learned that there were only two qualified instructors to teach our course, and the instructors also had company training during this time- affecting their availability. The school was in the process of moving, resulting in students not knowing where to be for class due to the schools poor communication.Upon completion of the course, none of the students were prepared for their checkride- no student had the required endorsements needed to take the checkride, nor felt confident in their knowledge to pass. Our instruction lacked quality, professionalism, communication, and organization.Once the course was over, I waited patiently for the school to schedule the remainder of my flight and ground instruction. After not hearing from them for two months, I went in person (around august 2023) and spoke with the school director. I inquired about a refund for the course, explaining the lack of information, quality, and communication provided, as well as the retention rate of my knowledge after two months. I was told that I would receive a call or email from one of the owners (?), which I never happened.
