In October of 2021, we paid this company upwards of $500 to have Christmas lights installed. This included the purchase of all the lights (which we were told we'd keep) plus the installation and then the removal after Christmas. We were then told we'd only have to pay an installation fee, about half the amount, for every year thereafter. I have reached out to this company for the last month trying to find out when I'd be contacted to get on the schedule this year for our installation. I left voice messages and sent text messages. Finally today Steven answered the phone only to say they won't be installing Christmas lights this year or in subsequent years. My 4 daughters are devastated, as they have been asking for the past month when the Christmas lights would be installed. I feel completely misled by this company. I would not have used them to purchase lights and have them installed, only to have to find a new company the following year.

      Business response

      01/04/2022

Business Response /* (1000, 20, 2021/11/03) */ We as a company decided back in April that we are no longer installing Christmas lights for the 2021 season and foreseeable future. This customer Mrs. ***** erupted on the phone towards us. She stated that her children will be devastated. We tried to explain to her that we are not installing them anymore. She then started to say that when we took down her lights we broke her bulbs by throwing the wire everywhere. As any Christmas light installer knows you pull the lights down and some bulbs will break while coming down, this is very very common but Mrs. ***** could not understand that. We then offered to put 2 boxes of 25 c9 clear bulbs on her door step by November 4th, looking at the calendar we still have till 2 days (today is November 2nd). Its very unfortunate that Mrs. Dace acted the way she did, i.e making us feel guilty by bringing up how her children will be devastated. Our crews have familys as well and we decided its an unsafe working condition for our crews. She also brought up how she spent $500. Well yes but $250 of that $500 was for her material. The labor was $250, and we always worked with her that she paid half before and half after we took them down, and we dont do that for anyone but wanted to make her a qualified customer. We've been in business for 20 years, and Mrs. ***** is a prime example that no matter what you do to take care of a customer you cant make everyone happy. We as a private company reserve the right to no longer do business with this customer. But we will meet our word and place two boxes of c9 clear bulbs on the door step November 4th. Consumer Response /* (3000, 22, 2021/11/05) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) In the company's response, it was stated that they decided in April of this year, that they no longer would be installing Christmas lights. Not only is this just 3 months after taking down my lights, but this was something not even communicated to the customers. Wouldn't it be better to notify everyone sooner than later, especially with Christmas light installation being in such high demand? In my original claim filed on 10/7/21, I described the following: "I have reached out to this company for the last month trying to find out when I'd be contacted to get on the schedule this year for our installation. I left voice messages and sent text messages. Finally today Steven answered the phone only to say they won't be installing Christmas lights this year or in subsequent years." Not only did the company not notify customers in April once the decision had been made, they didn't relay that information to me until I called asking when I'd be notified of my installation appointment (and that was after an entire month of leaving voice messages/text messages). In no way did I "erupt" on the phone. I most certainly expressed that my girls would be disappointed, but what child wouldn't be? For the clear lights that we were given, I can guarantee they were not $250. And I most certainly didn't expect them to grab one end of the lights and just pull them down. I'm attaching a picture of our "$250" lights. I opened this complaint with the clear understanding that we will no longer be utilizing Ski Scapes' services. Once they installed our Christmas lights, they had to come back 3-4 times to keep fixing all of the ones that kept going out. It was definitely not a $500 job. In addition, the company never dropped off the two boxes of lights as promised on November 4th, after clearly stating "But we will meet our word and place two boxes of c9 clear bulbs on the door step November 4th". Business Response /* (4000, 24, 2021/11/09) */ Lights have been dropped off at the customers house, we have a picture as well. Also both parties agreed to the price of the Christmas Lights and now we are getting a complaint about the price. This will be our last response to this "case". Consumer Response /* (4200, 27, 2021/11/11) */ (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.) The bottom line is the lights were not dropped off on the date as "promised", even though they were eventually dropped off (November 6th versus the original promise date of November 4th). The reason the price of the lights even became an issue is because the company decided to stop offering the ongoing service as promised. I would have never agreed to the $250 in materials otherwise, especially knowing the basic white lights that only covered the front of our house and down one side, 2 extension cords, and timer no where met that price. I hope to save fellow consumers any headaches/frustration going forward by sharing my experience.
