Advertising Review

BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising.  These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints, and competitor challenges.  BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers clearer to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.

On June 20, 2023, BBB contacted Indigo Healing Acupuncture, PLLC regarding claimed results on their website https://indigohealingacupuncture.com.  Indigo Healing Acupuncture, PLLC advertises acupuncture can help with chronic pain including specific diseases and ailments including multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and relief from chronic pain, sports injuries, head pain, women’s conditions, asthma, bronchitis, colds, coughs, allergies, skin ailments, and body pain.

Indigo Healing Acupuncture, PLLC also advertises claims ozone therapy offers “a quick, painless, non-invasive treatment that is clinically proven to increase endogenous production of antioxidants, local perfusion, and oxygen delivery, as well as enhance immune response. Ozone Therapy is used for treating brain fog, fatigue, headaches, sinus congestion, seasonal allergies, Meniere’s Disease, ear infection, and systemic mold toxicity.  Ozone Therapy is also great for building systemic resistance against viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.”

Indigo Healing Acupuncture also advertises Moxibustion “regulates menstruation and calm the fetus.”

BBB Code of Advertising states that claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy, or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.

BBB requested Indigo Healing Acupuncture, PLLC provide evidence from recent, reliable, and competent studies or other objective data which may include scientific findings, FDA approvals, double-blind placebo-controlled clinical studies, or other objective data to substantiate the advertised claims.

Additionally, BBB’s research found The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states there is no proof of the safety and effectiveness of Ozone in any medical condition.

Indigo Healing Acupuncture, PLLC responded to BBB’s request with articles from the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  BBB evaluated the articles Indigo Healing Acupuncture PLLC provided for both Ozone Therapy and Moxibustion and determined that the studies did not substantiate the advertised claims as some studies were limited by the number of overall studies, patient sample sizes, and advertised claims.

BBB also determined the studies provided regarding acupuncture mentioned the study was limited about Multiple Sclerosis based on a relatively small sample size, evidence, and methodology. BBB also requested more substantiation regarding the use of acupuncture for the advertised ailments as evidence was not provided for all the symptoms.

BBB requested further information including any approvals from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  Indigo Healing Acupuncture, PLLC failed to substantiate the advertised claims.

As of October 19, 2023, Indigo Healing Acupuncture, PLLC failed to modify, substantiate or discontinue the advertised claims.
