    Pattern of Complaint:

    BBB files indicate Self Financial Inc. has a pattern of complaints concerning contract and credit reporting issues.  Specifically, consumer complaints allege objections about debts listed on their credit report including questions regarding liability for debts from Self Financial and/or Lead Bank.  Some consumers allege they do not have a contract with Self Financial or in some instances have not received a copy of their original contract when they requested it from Self Financial Inc.

    On October 12, 2023, Self Financial Inc. responded that their products report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requirements resulting in both positive and negative information being supplied to the Credit Bureaus based on the actions of the consumer.  Self Financial Inc. replied if their customer attempts to have negative history removed it is often an action recommended in social media circles, but consumers agree to Self Financial Inc.’s 1) Terms and Conditions which outlines the terms of the accounts Self Financial Inc. offers 2) Loan Documents in which the customer agree to the loan terms during onboarding and is provided a copy in their dashboard. 3) Cardmember Agreement (Secured card)-The customer agrees to the cardmember agreement and terms during their onboarding.  The agreement is also provided in the customer’s dashboard.  Self Financial’s response also detailed accounts cannot be created without a customer agreeing to it and other items during onboarding of both the Credit Builder and Secured Credit Card accounts. 

    BBB files also indicate that Self Financial Inc. has a pattern of complaints concerning consumers unaware of a personal loan or credit card opened in their name with Self Financial Inc.

    Self Financial Inc. responded they have a robust practice of verifying the identity of their consumers during the onboarding process.  BBB provided examples of complaints with these concerns and Self Financial Inc. responded claiming of ID theft continues to be a tactic promoted in social media circles as a method to remove delinquent tradelines; Self Financial Inc. responded the examples BBB referenced fit this narrative.   Self investigated the complaints into possible ID theft and confirmed the customers agreed to the accounts in question and provided a response reflecting their findings.

    BBB determined Self Financial Inc.’s response did not reflect a summary of actions to work on addressing or eliminating the underlying pattern of complaint concerns.

      SUNRISE BANK SELF LENDER has been harassing me to pay a debt that is not mines. This company has refused to supply me with any proof that this account belongs to me. I have asked for the original contract with my wet signature and I have not been provided with the proof I have asked for . Instead they verify they account as accurate without even sending me the proof that the account is mines. This company has illegally been updating the account to make it look up to date like it is actually my account! I am a victim of identity theft ! Some one picked up my wallet in 2020 I left at a restaurant that included my social security number, birth certificate , debit cards and everything. Someone has used my information to open bank accounts , get car loans , or now student loans. The fact that SUNRISE BANK SELF LENDER cannot even verify it was me to open up the account is so disheartening !! This fraudulent account has had a negative account on my credit report not allowing me to do or get approved for anything ! And the company won't even do their job and investigate this account and send me proof that it is my account. Instead they continue to report this fraudulent account every month and harass me about. debt that is not mines ! I demand that this account be reinvestigated and REMOVED from my credit report unless they can send me the original contract verifying that the account is mines.       I am rejecting this response because:

      As stated multiple times I lost my wallet that contained everything!! My DEBIT CARDS , SOCIAL SECURITY CARDS, BIRTH CERTIFICATE ETC !! So of course the thief may have used a payment method with MY NAME !! That does not mean that I authorized that . The signature was ELECTRONIC and not WET . I never signed a contract with you guys ! What is an ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE ??? Send me a paper contract with my WET signature and we have an argument! Everything is done online now it is so easy for someone to ELECTRONICALLY SIGN MY NAME AND USE A PAYMENT METHOD THAT WAS STOLEN FROM ME TO OPEN AN ACCOUNT!!!!!! I have been trying to dispute this account since I found out it was fraudulently verified!!!! And I have not been sent an original contract with my WET signature! But I am being tormented for an ELECTRONIC signature ANYONE could have signed !! I truly cannot believe this !!! Like Ive literally have been saying that I did not authorize this account!! Despite my numerous disputes, the incorrect information remains on my report, indicating a failure to comply with this requirement. According to consumer law 1681i. My disputes regarding the inaccurate information have not led to any correction or deletion, showing a clear disregard for this provision according to 1681i ( a ). Despite this, they have failed to update their records accordingly, reflecting a failure in their procedures for handling identity verification and record maintenance. Because of this, it is affecting my creditworthiness and causing me problems: Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), consumers have the right to seek damages if credit reporting agencies fail to comply with the law: Civil Liability for Willful Noncompliance - 1681 n: " Under Civil Liability for Willful Noncompliance - 1681 n of the ***** if Equifax willfully fails to comply with the ***** I am entitled to recover actual damages or statutory damages ranging from ($100.00] to {S1000.00], punitive damages as determined by the court, and the costs of the action together with reasonable attorneys fees.       I have been trying to close a secured credit card through self financial for 4 months and get my deposit back. There is no option to contact customer service online. Online chat services are unavailable. When you call the customer service line and go through all prompts to speak to a live representative the call hangs up. I have been trying to close this card for MONTHS. My credit score has dropped 60 points since then.

      I opened app this account in 23 period with a credit card of a benefit 150 cut in line and a loan account for $500 period August 23rd of this year I paid off the loan amount which my payout was supposed to be 500 and twen the payout period I was told that $450 will go towards the car I've had 1 credit 2 credit limit races period which I paid off over the year Period and then they inform me that another deposit was due 450 period which doesn't make sense if I've already paid off the previous. I wanna have an send you a quick email on how we actually calculate your breakdown and this is for the credit builder that was recently closed so I just wanted to address that first and foremost you paid us $659.35 in total and then from that interest was deducted $63.04 and then failed $1775 late see of $1.25 and then you gained a crude CD interest of 52 cents and then the rest of it is transferred over to the selfies and credit card that was the $450 that we're looking for And simplify the $450 if being kept as a deposit or a collateral on your credit card at the moment and it will remain there until you decide to close the credit Then the 440 then $600 will go back to you ******************* we're in you transfer money over to that and then you can use it to stay off the balance it's not really like that but instead it's just even a national of money that being held you know like a cloud or ball if being held by a reportner bank so that at the end of your account if you decide to close credit card account you can either use it to pay off the balance or you can get it back if you close the account with a 0 ****** what is your name OK ******* so so basically I have to pay off my account to get my money back is what you're saying which my account was paid off but I don't know I'm trying to figure that part out I'm confused because I don't read that in the agreement printing convenience if it's part of the improved conditions of the credit card andgineering of how a secured card works

      I applied for Self Financial. Of this involving being linked to my bank account. Apparently, without my approval drafted unkown amount of money. This of course made me delinquent. Then, without notification or discussion, reported the account to the credit reporting agencies. I never authorized the draft of this account.

      I signed up for a "credit builder" account they take money out of my account every month with no issues. They issued me a secured credit card which I used and my credit score dropped 60 points in one month from this account. When I try to pay it off using same account they debit every month it will not allow me to make a payment from ANY payment method including the one on file. My first payment is not even due trying to pay off balance. This is a SCAM.

      I signed up with self with their secured accounts. Payed money up front. I experienced financial hard ships, and stopped using self. At first the payments were late as I was optimistic for the future of my payments. Ultimately I decided I couldnt afford to keep doing them. I closed my accounts and suddenly ************************** wanted money on a secured account. How? Its my money backing it. I just get my money back. So I eventually realized I had to file a document and suddenly the loan was returned. The next problem was the secured card. Ultimately self claimed to charge off the card, except all the while sending me monthly bills claiming the account to be open and owed. Upon further investigation I discovered a discrepancy in the amounts owed and purchases, leading to self to correct the balance. Next self continued to say the new debt was accurate. It is still a secured account and part of the debt can be deducted from the secured amount instead they are keeping the account open so they cant access that amount, claimed it was loses and charged off, and then send me monthly bills as if the account is open. This is predatory and they are intentionally immacurate in their reports to the bureaus. This has damaged my credit for over a year. There is no accountability.

      It is not accurate the balance went down from over $600 to $400 dollars before the card was even due. Also calculations of card usage puts the balance at $400 not $600. I filed with Experian to get the information corrected over a year ago. Now they claim they changed it on their own.

      I have contacted my bank, but I will not just accept that, as you wrote "Once we are notified by your financial institution that the charges are
      fraudulent, we will block the payment method used and your information will not be used". I would like my $1003 back in my account, or I will hire an attorney.

      SELFINC/LEAD (TU,EX, &EQ)32859****Date Opened: 01/27/2020 Balance: $0.00 As per the **** as a federally protected consumer, I am option out of any and all authorization I the consumer may have given you written, unwritten, verbal, non-verbally per 15 USC 6802. This account is listed as a charge-off which is a certificate of indebtedness. I am sure (SELFINC/LEAD) has filed a 1099c. Income cant be reported on a consumer report. My privacy was violated as per the Privacy Act 1974. This account needs to be removed from my consumer report. Privacy Act of 1974 (5 US Code 552a) Any and all consent to Equifax, Experian, and Transunion whether it be verbal, non-verbal, written, implied, or otherwise is revoked. 15 USC 6802 (b)(c) states that A financial institution may not disclose nonpublic personal information to a non-affiliated third party unless the consumer is given an explanation of how the consumer can exercise that non-disclosure option. You never informed me of my right to exercise non-disclosure option. Not only that 15 USC 1681C (a)(5) states Except as authorized under subsection (b), no consumer reporting agency may make any consumer report containing any of the following items of information any other adverse item of information, other than records of convictions of crimes which antedates the report by more than seven years. This account is as adverse item they are reporting again without my permission which is against the law. 15 USC 1681s-2 (A)(1) A states A person shall not furnish any information relating to a consumer to any consumer reporting agency if the person knows or has reasonable cause to believe that the information is inaccurate.
