We hired Capital Siding and Roofing to redo the siding on our house. For that they did an amazing job and we are very happy with those results. However, while doing so they undid our Breaker Box and moved breakers around and put new higher voltage breakers in. They also cut the lock on our meter which the city and an outside electric company confirmed were attempts to avoid pulling permits and save a couple bucks. Throughout the week we lost power to various portions of our house. They were able to restore some power but not all and now we have no power to around 1/4 of our house. We have asked them to pay for the fix after they gave us several different stories about why we lost power (including rats chewing through our wires the day they showed up). Since they have refused to do so we have hired counsel to try in an attempt to get them to do the right thing. We are asking them here to pay for our electricity to be fixed, legal fees paid and electronics replaced that were destroyed.Business response

Here is what I detailed to **************** attorney:
"************* has stated an untrue fact in his negative reviews that my subcontractors cut a lock off a meter at his residence. From the beginning, it was clear that the lock on the meter had already been removed at some prior time for a piece of trim that had been installed behind the conduit that runs from it. The only way that trim could have been placed there was if the meter box was first unlocked and pulled away from the house to slid the trim behind. I don't know when this trim was placed there, but I assume it was after ************** purchased the home as an inspector preparing a home for sale would not have approved it if that meter was unlocked. Whether your client was aware of that fact is uncertain, but my subcontractors(nor I) DID NOT remove that lock.In addition, while doing a walk around of the house prior to submitting my siding proposal to your clients, I took a few pictures so that I would remember what I saw in order to prepare my bid for the siding work. I noted at that time that the meter box was crooked and there were no screws in place fastening it to the house, another clue that the box had been previously tampered with.
It was ****************** who first alerted the siding subcontractors that there was a problem with some of the outlets inside the home and asked them about it. They offered to test the outlets to see which ones were having issues. The subcontractors noted to ****************** that the outlets were not sufficient to handle the amount of power that was required of them due to older insufficient aluminum wiring throughout the home, as well as insufficient ampage in the breakerbox. When asked if this could be remedied, the subcontractors suggested they could try to increase the ampage in the breaker box to accommodate the higher load(the living room was an area where multiple electronics were being used tv, computer, and where the majority of the outlet issues were being experienced). ****************** gave them permission to make that upgrade. It is my understanding that they did the ****** upgrade to test if this would correct the problem. After the upgrade was completed, ************** stated all outlets were then working. The adjustment was done without any charge to your clients and was completed by the subcontractors on their own time, independent of the siding job I was contracted to do.The contract I had with your clients was for siding only. Whatever extra service/help that was provided to your client was not part of our siding contract and therefore not one I'm responsible for.
My company is not responsible for the outdated aluminum wiring throughout your client's home, which in my vast experience with remodeling of older homes, is wrought with problems. I was not contracted to do any inside remodeling for your clients. If I had been, I would have immediately pointed out that the home would have to be rewired with a more modern system(such as copper) in order for me to consider doing any work inside. If they wanted me to include that, I would have had to hire a subcontractor and included that cost in my bid.
I do not feel it is my responsibility to pay your clients for updating their home with new wiring, which in my opinion is the only solution for the problems they're having."Customer response

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:
We had zero issues with power before his crew showed up.
