I think the best way to tell you is with the emails sent between us: I brought my dog ****** ***** Monday morning with an infected **** gland that ruptured out through the skin. After visiting ADVH my dog was in much more pain than he'd been in before. Every time he'd get up he was acting startled and running and jerking his head back at his rear end. He'd been acting normal before to the vet visit. I assumed that because I'd already taken him to the vet that he would start to get better soon. By Wednesday I could see he was getting worse and took him in to another vet. They cleared the clogged gland and he's on the mend now. I think I should be refunded for the office visit portion of my **** because I don't think my dog was given the care he needed at ADVH, he suffered for two days longer and I had to pay to take him to another vet.I've also contacted and surgeon and talked to another vet who both confirmed that it is not advisable to perform **** gland saculectomy while ***** is an active infection. I'm scared to think what could have happened if I'd gone through with what was advised at ADVH and had the surgery done that same day. Please refund my office visit because my dogs issue was not properly addressed while he was in your care and I had to pay for a second vet trip (and take more time off from work) two days later.-********************* Their response:Hello *****,I'm sorry to hear how painful ****** was this week. A ruptured **** gland is a very painful problem. Fortunately, ************** was able to give him an antibiotic injection and sent home 2 weeks of antiinflammatory pain meds to help ease it. In our experience, surgery to remove the glands is the best option. Clogged **** glands often becomes a recurring issue, so to avoid this ever happening again - we recommend to remove them altogether. Not all doctors are comfortable with this procedure, however. We perform this procedure regularly and have found only positive results. (couldn't fit all)
