Emailed a letter from my mental health practitioner in regards to allowing me to have my small dog live with me full time as an *** without having to pay a pet deposit that I cannot afford. Was responded to via email by office mgr ************************* that the letter is not good enough, my dog has to be "certified" and that " the person signing the letter isn't even the Dr.". I have been under the care of *********************** a licensed MHNP that works under ***************************** for over a year. I see him on a monthly basis. I do not feel it is right that I should go to a bogus website, answer a few questions from someone I don't even know that claims they are a mental health professional but is probably just AI, pay $189 to get them to email me a letter "certifying" my dog as an *** when I have a legitimate letter from a professional I have been seeing in person that knows my entire mental health history and issues. ***************************** was very unprofessional in her response and I feel very discriminated against when I'm only trying to be honest and go through the proper and better channels than some AI driven website. I am looking for ************************* contact info that so happens to be not only the owner of Homestead Realty but also the commissioner of the **************************. To think that her employees are allowed to treat people doing the right thing the way they have is horrible. I am a good tenant, pay my rent on time, never call and harass or curse or threaten the staff unlike other tenants, yet I'm treated this way.Business response

**************,
I have received the complaint you filed with the BBB, in regards to your issue with your *** Letter. ***************** made me aware of the situation at hand as everything was occuring. We have not violated HIPAA. We did not ask specifics of your health / health conditions. We have had several other *** Letters provided to us in the last 30 days and yours had very minimal information - handwritten, informal format, a signature with no credentials (not legible), or print of the signing name, minimal identifying patient information (your name only), etc. I am attaching a sample of the format my staff has always seen.
We do have a responsibility to verify documents when the legitimacy is in question. There was no discrimination taking place. This is asked of anyone who we have questions regarding their documents. Please understand, fraud is very real and very high - with this letter being so different from anything anyone in our office has ever seen, concerns were raised. One of the employees who has had to provide documentation to an employer previously, showed our office the letter she was given as a comparison, as well.
***************** was only doing her job to protect all parties involved. We have also had an attorney review multiple *** Letters in other circumstances and he gave our company a set of guidelines that we follow when looking at *** / SA Letters. Once you provided the medical professionals credentials everything was fine. Please understand - that we don't know everything and have to ask follow up questions when clarity is needed.
I hope this addresses your concerns and we can move forward in a positive way.
Thanks!
