We contracted Rikman on 9/11/23 to install a generator behind the garage in our backyard. The install on 11/7/23 did not occur as sold to us and an unexpected hole was punched into the side of our hardy board on our home that was not supposed to be there. While doing so, Rikman staff damaged $2,400 of our property in an area of the garage they were not supposed to enter. The electrical lines were run in the shortest path possible across our storage space, effectively reducing the storage space of our home. Rikman does not see these items as issues and thinks we are trying to get out of paying the balance due of our bill after months of non-responsiveness from Owner, his COO daughter, and the sales rep – however, we just want them to fix and address problems. On 11/7, We immediately contacted Rikman about the following issues and did not hear a response of any kind until we pressed them on 12/5 saying we would not be paying the bill until these things were addressed. They then held our generator hostage until we agreed to settle for $900 for damages. The owner and his COO daughter remain elusive and all other employees laugh when you ask to speak to them or be called/emailed back. Issues sent to team include: • Disrespect to our property during install resulting in damages: o Hole in our hardy board siding – not what was told to us would be the final install. Ted told us the piping would go through our overhang in the roof, not the side of the house o Damage to brand new never worn bicycle helmet and bicycle from workers moving our property without permission - we explicitly said we wanted to move our things out of the way if they needed to access any unexpected spaces o Trampled plants because installers admittedly “were not paying attention” • Credit from Kohler promotion at time of order not reflected on final invoice (we told salesman at time of purchase our intent to choose Kohler over Generac was that Kohler was running a promotion equating a $900 discount. We were not told we were ineligible for this discount until we pressed them for a revised invoice again on 12/5) • Continued lack of communication and proactive outreach from Rikman o We have been told so many times we would be called back and have not - I have reached out on 11/7, 11/9, 11/11, 11/16, and was told each time someone would call me back in a timely manner but have yet to receive any calls. o Issuance of invoice prior to work being completed or issues being addressed When returning to complete work finally on 12/6, only some of our concerns were addressed. I had stated before crew left the first time and in all of my communications that we expected the installed piping to be secured in our garage space as they had left it draped over beams where we need to access our overhead storage space. They assured us it would be secured but then admitted during final install that nothing could be done and it would stay that way. We stated we expected them to re-run the line with a longer wire along beams rather than across storage space and they said no. I see this as equivalent to asking them to run an electrical line behind a closet and they cut across the closet and said sorry you just can’t use that closet now. We sent documentation of these issues immediately after work was done on 12/6 and did not hear a peep until invoice was once again issued on 12/18 without any contact from Rikman or response. We replied saying our issues have not been addressed and were contacted by the accounting department saying our issues would not only not be addressed but that the owner does not even know about our issues. We are not trying to get out of paying our bill, but we do expect work to be completed as contracted prior to paying. Please help!!Initial Complaint
