I have notice that during the peak season August or September my bill is sky rocket high, and I can't understand why. This bill cycle for Aug 1st - Aug 31st I was out of town for 36 days on business and everything in the house shut down except for a porch light during that time and my bill is ****** unbelievable this is with out any lights being used or AC since the house was empty at this time. Then the customer service rep stated that the usage spike up Aug 10th on a empty house lol. Some funny business is going on, and it is bad because it is nothing a customer can do about it because they are the only electric company service this area and I believe that is why they are charging people what they want to charge them. After August and September the bill goes down about half or more. Something is not right nor fair with this company. Last year August I was charge over 400 dollars and when I say this is a single home and a single person living in the home with no kids or animals unbelievable.CoServ Electric Response

Co-serv had my old mailing address but my current address correct. As a result, I did not receive my cutoff notice in time and my service was disconnected. I paid my bill immediately the same day and was charged a non-refundable $100.00 reconnect fee. When I explained to the agent, she confirmed my address was incorrect, but updated my address and would not give me the $100 credit. Times are hard and I barely have enough to pay my bills, how does charging you extra help in any way. I will probably be disconnected again b/c I've been unemployed for 5 months before finding a job and can't get caught up. If I had another choice, I definitely wouldn't choose Co-Serv. The bills are always high no matter what you adjust you thermostat to or limit electronic or no one is home. I believe I should be entitled to some type of credit from the blackout for days a year or so ago. I lost power and worked from home, couldn't work-lost money, and all my food spoiled; however, no compensation for that time and no compassion for people during these hard times. I am so tired of lower & middle class being overlooked. So disappointed!!!CoServ Electric Response

Before buying a home , ask about the energy and gas agreement. If its CoServ stay away for your peace and ************** They bring very expensive bills to you less than a month and no transparency. They will one day meet their end point. This company can not continue taking advantage of customers based on agreements made by few people and expect to succeed all the time. Karma is real. CoServ is a no no for your gas and electricity.CoServ Electric Response

My bill is always over $600 every month. In February 2023 they had the nerve to add fees because it was close to another billing cycle. The rich are getting rich and the poor are getting poorer. We have to do everything in the dark literally... CONserv deserves ZERO stars. And on top of that I can't find any help to get the bill lowered. I can't pay any other bills because my electric bill takes all of my money...CoServ Electric Response

My bill has gone up by over 160%, I stay in a 2 bedroom townhome with nothing extra but for the past 2 months my bill has been over $1670, times are hard right now and coserv is becoming extremely costly. Another thing I tried to do was make an arrangement to extend my payment, I paid $450 last night and I was asking if they could give me until Friday to not disconnect the power, it's raining and cold here in ***** ***** but the supervisor and customer service representative I spoke too had no empathy or showed concern to even try to assist with my request. Employ humans with emotions. I need assistance with why my light bill is extremely high and an extension so my lights are not turned off in the middle of the winter please.CoServ Electric Response

We understand getting a bill that's higher than you expected can be frustrating. Unfortunately, as an electric distribution cooperative, we have very little control over the increased wholesale costs impacting all consumers across the State of Texas. However, we are doing everything we can to provide safe, reliable electric service at a fair cost. CoServ electric rates remain very competitive with retail electric provider rates in the deregulated market. As of January 2023, The Public Utility Commission of Texas resource, *****************, shows an average of just over 15 cents per kilowatt-hour for a 12-month contract based on 2,000 kilowatt-hours. CoServ's electric rate for the same 2,000 kilowatt-hours is just under 13.3 cents per kilowatt-hour. And we will always only charge you for the energy you use at your home. We're always here to help you find ways to save money on your energy bill. Energy savings tips can be found at ************************. Another option could be our Budget Billing program. This company is unethical. They send 2 bills in one month. I spoke with someone they said it was a mistake but every month I get 2 bills. I live in a one bedroom apartment bill is over 244 dollars. I'm never home. It's robbery Txu is no where near this high. I hate this company. I will be forced to move because electricity is to high.CoServ Electric Response

In a review of the Members account, there were 2 billing cycles in May - The Member had a due date of May 1st for service in April and May 29 for service in May. We have discussed this with our Member and have assisted her with a new bill cycle, so her Bills will now be due on the 1st of the month going forward. We discussed her usage and advised her to speak with her Apartment Complex to request the HVAV be serviced. We also advised the reason for the higher rate this year over last year.
Thank youCustomer Response

Apartment complex checked ac unit. There was nothing wrong. The only way you can get a lower bill is by turning everything completely off. Representative suggested I raise thermostat to 81. Will not do. What do I look like paying the electric company to keep my apartment feeling like a sauna. I'm not the only person who have complained about CoServ. I read their reviews 90 percent of the people have the same complaints as me. It's not fair . We should have the right to choose another electric company. With no options but Co-Serv they can charge whatever they want.CoServ Electric Response

One Star Is To Much! My last Electric Bill was HIGHER than MORTAGE! Not Acceptable! I had to demand them to check my meter and of course CoServ had nothing wrong and we owed the bill! The ONLY thing I was told about my OVER PRICED bill is that CoServ went up in price a FEW CENTS! Not ONE PERSON can explain how Record Breaking Freeze & Cold last year my bill was $431 using 4873 KWH! But this bill, with some cold days and certainly days of 70 this last bill used 4858 KWH and was $567. THAT IS 15 KWH LESS AND $136 MORE DOLLARS AND COSERV WANTS TO SAY IT WENT UP A FEW CENTS! I HARDLY THINK 136 MORE DOLLARS IN ONE MONTH...IS A FEW CENTS! WHEN YOUR ELECTRIC COST MORE THAN YOUR MORTAGE PAYMENT THERE IS A ISSUE. On top of this their MONTHLY LIST OF FEE's they don't include those charges in what your KWH charge is but at the end of the day, YOU STILL OWE THOSE FEE's so in good faith and not to DECEIVE their customers TOTAL ALL THE BOGUS FEE'S AND ADD THEM TO KWH CHARGE... THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE BEING CHARGED! STOP LYING ABOUT YOUR KWH CHARGE! Their customer service is a joke, while on the phone with one of Co Serv's people I was told how lucky I am because in 1937 farmers did not have electric out here! I had to explain I did not need a history lesson and frankly it's not 1937 ANY MORE! Get real! Why can't people demand to have DEREGULATION? This should be OUR CHOICE not CoServ! Of course CoServ will NEVER want Deregulation because they will LOSE SOME BUSINESS WHEN PEOPLE HAVE A CHOICE! AND IF COSERV WAS SO GREAT LIKE THEY CLAIM, THEN WHY FEAR THE LOST OF ANY BUSINESS? I don't really know for sure these days, but last I heard its a FREE COUNTRY!CoServ Electric Response

We completely understand our Member's frustrations and pride ourselves on providing affordable rates to our Members and Customers. That commitment continues despite the current challenges in the wholesale energy market. There is a direct correlation between wholesale natural gas prices and wholesale electricity costs in Texas. Natural gas prices increased rapidly during the second half of 2021 and remain high in 2022. This means CoServ and other Texas gas and electric distribution utilities are paying more for wholesale electricity and gas.Review from Kaveh F

Coserve electric had my utility bill more that doubled when I left a notice to leave the apartment complex. They refused to find a solution to my questions on why my apartment unit usage is 2100+ kilowatts while my friends electric is less that half of mine when living at the same apartment complex and have similar units. both 2 bedrooms and keep the temp around the same for ac.CoServ Electric Response

As stated in our original response, on August 13, 2021, we sent our Member an email advising that the meter installed on his home had been identified as having an issue with its internal communication module. And due to the global semiconductor shortage impacting our meter supply were unable to change his meter. As a result of this, we had to estimate his usage on the July and August statement. We have sent a technician to change the meter and we were able to get the actual readings from the meter since it did record the energy usage properly. In section 324.3 of CoServ's Tariff for Electric Service, it states that we can estimate usage when there is good reason to do so. It also states that an actual meter reading is taken at least every 3 months. In addition, every bill that is estimated includes an "Estimated Bill" notice under the summary. This Member's bill was estimated twice but we did get an accurate reading on the third month keeping us within the rules of our Tariff. When estimations occur, they are exactly that, estimates based upon the historical information and billing system settings. When we were able to get a good reading for the September bill, it included the actual usage from the two previously estimated months. Unfortunately, we did underestimate causing a larger bill in September. We know this is not ideal, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience.Customer Response

Thank you for providing us with this information. Unfortunately, we did provide incorrect information in our original response. This Member's meter is not part of our meter exchange program.
However, in a review of the previous statements, energy usage increased from June to August. During the summer months, the HVAC system is the largest user of energy in the home, and runtime is significantly impacted by external temperature and the thermostat setpoint. In a review of the average temperatures for this time period, we had a steady temperature climb from June, where average temperatures were 74.7° to August when the average temperature was 83.2°. We also recommend keeping the thermostat at 78° for cooling. The usage increase is directly related to the increase in temperatures throughout the summer.
